Definitely my favorite parking lot to relaxing square conversion. Life is calm and beautiful in Delft
The area around Utrecht Centraal is an inspiration.
World’s largest bike parking ✅
Busiest cycle route in NL ✅
New green streets ✅
Highway to canal conversion ✅
Thanks to @bicycledutch.bsky.social for showing our Texas State students what’s possible
Are there perfect streets in the world? This one in the Jordaan in Amsterdam is on my list
Rambla Polenou also connects to the Superblock Poblenou which is being transformed from tactical urbanism into a more permanent green urbanism
Rambla del Poblenou in Barcelona is like a template of a great neighborhood business street: green, lively, lovely
Thoughts on a pretty night Uptown: New Orleans streetcar is the oldest continuously operating line in the world. It’s like a naturally occurring TOD with the smell of jasmine in bloom
Fun to appear on Texas State University podcast Enlighten Me to talk about transportation in Texas and the potential for a more resilient future. My segment starts at 24:45.

Brass band, pedestrian street, magical spring day
Honk Festival in Mueller neighborhood Austin Texas
Bellamyplein also functions as a water square ringed by wadies/bio swales. Beautiful place
Inspiration from Montréal: amazing interview about combing a water square, green space, cul de sac, traffic calming, & continuous sidewalks all together into a great place for people. Love this! See @ohtheurbanity.bsky.social video at: youtu.be/8lpXH7ajjUw?...
I was excited to join an all-star cast to celebrate @activetowns.bsky.social 5th Anniversary on YouTube & John’s birthday. Great conversation about how to make cities safer, healthier, and happier

All of this is data driven (LOS/traffic models) but we are literally going the wrong way. Measure what matters (safety/VMT reduction) & invest based on that.
3 facts about US transport: ped fatalities up 75% since 2010, highway lane miles up 42%, but congestion rose 144%. This is a blueprint of a failed transport. Great piece by @bethosborne.bsky.social lays out the existential problems with the system. usa.streetsblog.org/2025/02/27/1...
250 Meters of Happiness. That’s how Delhi based NGO HumanQind describes their school street that was co-created with school kids. Really blown away. Great model. Thanks to Car Free Cities Alliance for hosting. More info at www.humanqind.org
Cissy Strut coming out of the speakers. Baby asleep in the bike trailer. Great first weekend of Mardi Gras
I think this is Houthaven. Cool carfree development close to Amsterdam Centraal. I think I found this same place last summer
Fun to be included in the roundup of most watched videos from 2024 from @activetowns.bsky.social . We toured Houten with Kylie van Dam to learn what makes a greenway-focused town work. Inspiring tour
I’m pretty sure the “revolutionary” “street rooms” in San Francisco are just nice pedestrian streets. I’m open to a name update if we can start integrating these into US cities

Nice triple embedded in Hyde Park in Austin. Legalizing doubles and triples seems like a good place to start land use reform
No better person than Robert Caro to join in for the end of this master class on power, democracy, infrastructure, & what makes great cities. So much to reflect on 99percentinvisible.org/episode/the-...
Love this trail-oriented development on a chilly day in New Orleans. Bioswale on one side & French Truck cortado on the other.
Ah, that’s great. I’m in Albuquerque for a few days. Really love the desert.Hope the transit job continues to be good. Cheers!
Glad the Netherlands trip is still resonating! Hope all is well
I had never heard of streetology before. Cool term. I guess this makes me a streetologist
Utrecht showing how to move from grey to green. I remember this area as kind of a lost space but now being transformed into a green place. Great before & afters from @bicycledutch.bsky.social
Interesting survey for physical activity professionals
For context, this area has gotten better in last few years with a push button activated ped crossing but safer doesn’t mean safe. Building safe streets on the edge of developing cities is a crucial challenge.
I usually post images of good infrastructure to inspire change. Sometimes it’s useful to look around & identify the problem. School zone at lethal speed in developing area right outside Austin shows how not to design a safe school zone
