Every opportunity MUNFA can create to advocate for the value of Memorial University to NL - we are taking it.
Because a legacy is also a PROMISE, and Memorial’s deserves to be honoured and protected.

Really great to see. I hope that the provincial government will step in with this.
No matter how you feel about cocaine, its use is growing more widespread and it's important that educators understand how they could integrate it as a tool in their classrooms.
These are the kinds of stories we keep hearing.
A course that changed someone’s life.
A reason someone stayed in Newfoundland and Labrador.
A degree that helped build a career, a business, a future.
A hope that the next generation gets the same chance. 1/2

Across Memorial, we are seeing the real impacts of ongoing funding cuts. Programs are changing. Jobs are being lost. Teaching and learning conditions are under pressure.
The impacts are not abstract. They affect our classrooms, our colleagues, and our students.1/3

According to admin, early retirement packages are problematic because they mean a loss of the people we really need. How is this different than firing contractual faculty? #WeAreMUN @munfaculty.bsky.social
[I posted this question at town hall, but is it "waiting for review" and not being released.]
I hope that the government follows suit!
MUNFA President Dr. Lisa Moores and Vice-President (Internal) Dr. Russell Williams met with Official Opposition Leader MHA John Hogan and Education Critic MHA Bernard Davis to advocate for increased funding for Memorial University ahead of the provincial budget. 1/3

A man standing in front of a bulletin board. On the board is a sign that says ‘#WeAreMUN I support contractual academic staff “Contractual instructors losing jobs losing jobs means fewer courses, fewer opportunities for students, and a weaker Memorial University for Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Posting in solidarity with academic colleagues who are being laid off. It will make teaching, learning, and research at MUN worse. #WeAreMUN

You and me both! It also makes me sad hearing my colleagues done down on the radio.
The classroom is tough at the moment - math classes are always hard, but our instructors do an excellent job. Most first year students need these courses and need to pass them. I have no idea how just cutting half the classes will improve educational outcomes.

President of @munfaculty.bsky.social, Dr. Lisa Moores, will be on CBC morning show tomorrow around 7:50 talking about cuts at MUN, including the loss of first year math instructors.
It’s certainly required for a lot of programs. We’ll end up with fewer classes of much larger sizes. Unfortunately, the folks who do some of the best teaching at that level will also be gone.
This is my department. I may lose many of my colleagues, who are excellent teachers and have taught almost all of our first year courses for years and years.
Proposed cuts in Mathematics & Statistics would eliminate 7 of 8 teaching positions and reduce first-year course sections students depend on. As the provincial budget approaches, faculty are urging government to reinvest in Memorial. 1/2
