Hard for no fucking reason at all is the worst kind of music. All work, no payoff 💀

I had nothing to say about poetic meter. If the person who wrote the music can’t clap/wave arms to the pulse of the 4/4 or 6/8 or 15/16 or whatever and speak the text intelligibly in the rhythm they’ve written, that should tell them something about their work 🙃

All it would take to notice is speaking the words in the written rhythm once. All it would take to fix is speaking the words in the meter.

I wouldn’t expect sung text to scan in perfect alignment with how it would be spoken, but when the libretto isn’t the issue, there has never been a case I’ve seen that couldn’t have been very easily spotted and fixed.

The most common way I see people write shit opera is by shoving lyrics into a rhythm that fights the actual pronunciation of the words. This makes simple music horrendously difficult memorize while also rendering it unintelligible, and I don’t understand why composers insist on doing it.
