I deleted my Twitter account a while ago. It’s hard to fathom how so many institutions are still using it.

The Guardian view on universities: Labour needs a clearer plan | Editorial Editorial: Ministers promised a ‘change of approach’, but their new tax could tip weaker institutions over the edge

'Despite all their difficulties, universities remain an enormous and irreplaceable national asset. As well as educating millions of people, they generate about £24bn in export earnings, which is about 1% of GDP – more than aircraft manufacturing and legal services combined'. 1/2

I think this is something we have to really grapple with. If we have the tools to run good virtual meetings then we need to be using them. A further dimension is also the visa inequalities meaning in person meeting only benefit the minority.

How Glasgow's 1957 tuberculosis screening programme could help countries today Visitors arriving in Glasgow, UK, today are met with a city that's undergone massive regeneration, from the colourfully illuminated exterior of the Hydro music venue on the old dockside along the River Clyde, to the stratified medicine cluster that is growing up around the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, one of the largest facilities in Europe. Wind the clock back to the 1950s, and visitors were faced with a city shrouded in smog from factories and coal fires, full of many people living in substandard, overcrowded housing, and suffering from poor nutrition, with World War 2 rationing only ending in 1954.

How Glasgow's 1957 #tuberculosis screening programme could help countries today.
