I feel like it's poorly understood that Trumpism is *explicitly* about Trump and his allies getting to play by their own set of rules literally wherever possible

Conservatives think the state should protect them from the traumatizing experience of encountering people unlike them. For some reason this never came up in the heyday of “snowflake,” “trigger warning” or “safe space” discourse bsky.app/profile/kiss...

I would absolutely bet on Alex Karp facing the same poetic end as Orson Krennic did on Scarif.

good thing there's no historical precedent for a massive flu epidemic ravaging the ability of militaries to effectively engage in armed conflict

The irony is that government mandated parking minimums are a literal parking purity test for development

I’m sure this virtue signaling bullshit will get her another self-flattering magazine profile and lobbyist gig once she cashes in.

Climate change is burning the world to a crisp, Trump’s insane invasion of Iran is actually driving up food costs, ICE is terrorizing people on American streets, Trump is taking billions of dollars in corrupt bribes, but Gluesenkamp-Perez is performatively eating sea lions.

Absolute brain worms.

"Those taxes you just paid? The money is going straight into Trump's pocket" would be good messaging

Replaying Horizon Zero Dawn and man that plot hit way too close to home and gets more ominous every day. There’s a whole lot of people who could be Ted Faro in 2026.

The COA also throws shade at the hearing judge and prosecution for another issue - the failure to enter a translation - that I think also should have been enough on its own to grant suppression! Shouldn't have survived the hearing, definitely shouldn't have survived the Second Department.

A denial of suppression I litigated at the trial level was reversed by the Court of Appeals today. It's a huge win for the basic principle that prosecutors actually have to show a person was lawfully seized and arrested, but unfortunately comes after my client had essentially served his sentence.

The affordability crisis didn’t disappear because inflation fell to 3% for the last year, at best it’s treading water, especially with massive public benefits cuts over the same period.

The one thing John Roberts is good at is giving the right-wing everything it wants 98% of the time, and using the other 2% to launder the Supreme Court’s reputation as a moderate bastion of reason.

Victim's family angered by Islanders' fundraiser for convicted cop The Islanders are facing questions about a jumbotron promotion urging hockey fans to donate to a former New York City police sergeant who was recently convicted of manslaughter for hurling a cooler of...

I’ve been an Islanders fan through some bad years, but this is by far the worst I’ve felt about the team. Zero reason for the team to do this, what a disgrace.

I suspect the Pope sounds "woke" to many Christian conservatives because the US is steeped in prosperity theology, where the point of worship is to deliver health and wealth to believers. Thus, "feed the hungry" and "show mercy for the poor" sounds needlessly political and "woke."

I don't know, guys. The president started a war with no plan and crashed the world economy, is building immense monuments to himself, is making billions off the presidency, and is now attacking the Pope while presenting himself as Jesus. Maybe the political class should abandon the inside voice.

Doesn’t the CPI also fail to account for cuts to public benefits?

Orban, Bolsonaro, Trump, and all the rest of these goons want you to believe they are inevitable and, once in power, invincible. They are not.

So JD Vance was given two high-profile tasks for the Trump administration -- boost Orban's chances at re-election in Hungary and help strike a settlement in Iran -- and he appears to have failed horribly at both.

I'm sure the NYT will be all over that.

Orbán turns out to be more of a democrat than the U.S. president and a nontrivial number of GOP candidates.

Will Mamdani Tame the NYPD? One hundred days into Zohran Mamdani’s mayoralty, crime is down, the police union is suspicious, the DSA is impatient — and key promises are unfulfilled.

Zohran has done some great things in his first 100 days, and I know Adams left a fiscal crisis and change is hard and it's still early, but the broken promises and walk backs and equivocation on basic reforms to NYPD (that don't cost any money) are bad and hopefully not a sign of things to come

Our contractor is telling us that in the last few months @nycbuildings.bsky.social seemingly arbitrarily imposed a new requirement for a TOPO survey to get permits, and that the department issuing these surveys has a three-month backlog.

Anybody know if this is true?

I know it’s lost in the noise right now, but the president of the United States having unhinged emotional meltdowns basically every day (most recently over an elderly musician being mean to him) is not something our country should just pretend isn’t happening.

Personal loyalty to the president is not a good quality in an Attorney General. The AG serves the American people, and isn’t the president’s personal lawyer.

Pam Bondi is a disgrace.

Don't get me wrong: I'm relieved that this case is shaping up as either 8-1 or 7-2 against the Trump executive order. But the case is a gift to the Supreme Court. By rejecting an outlandish position, it will earn credibility as apolitical, even as the Overton window moves far to the right.
