Something unexpectedly cool about Slam Dunk is that it actually takes time to honor the skin tones of darker characters, like in the case of Maki here. Genuinely so rare to see any series take the time to do so in the black and white medium of manga.

this is why there’s been mass revolt and opposition to data centers being built in communities. it is genuinely a health hazard to live this close to something emitting this much sound. these need to stop being built

I’m not well-versed in Hearon’s work, so his standup special was a great surprise! Sharp as hell, smart as hell, and further proof that Leftist voices can revel in dark humor. The relaxed and intentional delivery is the engine that fuels it further.

The most poignant part was the AI people talking to each other in an uncanny loop at the end, as without human input all they can do is regurgitate old information. A strike at the heart of the present.

However trash outlets try and stir shit, violent crime is down significantly in New York City! We just actually have a mayor who talks about it now instead of one that gets on a podium and says shit like “Big Apple? Biggest Apple in the world. New York City! Buy my bitcoin”

Something else refreshing is that the protagonists are reunited cousins who are 29 and 18 years old. One is navigating finding meaning in adult life, the other is navigating her first year at college. Even in a warm, comfy story, there’s a maturity not as present in high school centric manga tales.

Took the sunny morning to read the first volume of Hirayasumi by Keigo Shinzo! It was delightful and I definitely want to dive into the whole series.

There’s so much cozy, emotional, down to earth manga that get overshadowed by action shonen’s dominance. But there’s much more out there!

If you think it is necessary to be on Twitter to communicate your fact-based worldview, the reality is that worldview is being smothered.

The obvious answer here is that the student protest movement was broadly smeared as anti-semitic and aligned with terrorists, and a variety of institutions from government, media and the universities acted as if that smear was true, threatening, suspending, expelling and even deporting students.
