We postponed Christmas this year until a younger relative was safely out of hospital. Happily, that day came today, Good Friday, and we gathered around the tree and exchanged gifts. My favourite moment though was the baker asking, "Are you sure you're sure you want the cake to say Merry Christmas?"
Definitely one of those things I would hate to have to do, unless the alternatives were worse.
English word break hyphenation is weirdly nonstandardized. The key idea is that the reader should be able to read smoothly across a hyphenated break, so e.g. “rat•ing” is bad because you don’t know how to pronounce rat until you see ing. But what you are used to affects what you expect and accept.
Word break hyphenation and syllabification are similar but different things. For example, almost everyone says you can hyphenate “ses•sion”, but wherever you place the syllable break in that word it won’t be in that spot.
I think if space were tight enough I would allow hyphenating “amass•ed”.
