Extremely concerning:

"Estonia's Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur said that Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth told him by phone that the US would be suspending all arms deliveries to Estonia"

The official website of Suomenlinna The Suomenlinna Sea Fortress is a cultural treasure. Its construction began in the mid-18th century. Welcome to Suomenlinna!

Just jumping in... Suomenlinna is nice to see if you haven't seen it before (and if the weather is good). It's reachable by ferry.

France puts mobile corps command to the test in major war scenario The small forward command post lets commanders “be in contact with the divisions, to be as close as possible to the engagement zone,” said a top general.

"The 1st French Army Corps can deploy without U.S. support, with sovereign communications, according to Desmeulles, who said the biggest capability gap for a European or French army corps deploying without American support would be firepower"

Seems like bad news for FMS deals and to US MIC exports in the long term.

Why would countries bother planning for and committing to buy something, especially the bigger deals, when delivery might not come on time, if at all?

An underdelivering, unreliable and unpredictable vendor is a red flag.

The EMP and the Christofilos effect will confuse radars and harm satellites over a much larger volume than a conventional bomb.

When vodka doesn't cut it anymore, Dima does heroin and shrooms and channels his ancestral pile of horse shit:

"When strikes become a reality depends on what comes next"

What does that even mean, Dima?

2/10, no nuclear threats and lousy attempt at beat poetry. Off to bed without dessert!

There was literally a pangolin that flew combat sorties with the CIA in a dirty war in Laos that then died after drinking too much gin, so there’s at least one pangolin whose record is morally ambiguous

FM notwithstanding, Hemvärnet alone is like 23 k people and the reserves are about 34 k and Totaltörsvaret is still a thing.

Yes, politicians were stupid, many still are, but defense "destroyed" is not very accurate. And yes, the defense needs to be boosted a lot.

An interesting 1964 book by a #WW2 Finnish naval #intelligence officer. Alongside anecdotes of their work (like sinking a Soviet submarine thanks to a professor doing some quick experiments), he says that Finnish intelligence was certain that #USSR was planning to attack the Nazis in 1941.

They could do like Russians and escort with a submarine or two already now. Having a bunch of ASCM onboard would probably be enough to mean business in case the shooting starts?

Plus the subs could lay mines too 😏

Oil infrastructure burns well, it doesn't need magic to start a big fire.

Oh well.

Maybe as a result of a mutual scorched earth tactic we will get to a hydrocarbon free economy sooner than later.

🤷‍♂️

"If we can't control it, nobody can".

So USA disables Iran's ways to export her oil & Iran cannot re-enable the exports.

USA can still export its own oil though.

If ceasefire fails & SoH stays closed, Iran can try to play the same game with US refineries at GoM and/or the CAN-US pipelines.

Yep, this way USA can disturb Iran's exclusive control of SoH.

Now neither side alone can open the SoH, but BOTH can prevent movement at will, USA through a blockade and Iran through control of the narrow corridor.

For long-term logistical planning the SoH is now as good as closed.

Ultimatum yawnomatum.

Coercive diplomacy kind of fails when the coerced side will be under threats regardless of what they do, and when the main threat of US NATO withdrawal is a near inevitability anyway, and when all of the urgency is really on the coercing side.

Why does anything need to be secured, if there is a lasting ceasefire?

If the ceasefire is not lasting, why should Europe sail into it?

We already have FRDF with the troops and gear and frameworks and processes and whatnot.

Can that not be used for this "NATO business" too?

OK this is cool. The first time humans have seen the whole Mare Orientale on the far side of the Moon with their own eyes. See flic.kr/p/2s5HA2X 🧪🔭

Getting into a pinch on your work trip and your employer spending over 200 M USD to fix things...

But: whatever Iran shot the pilots down with cost a fraction of the 200+ M USD, so operations like this are fundamentally unsustainable over the long term.

Expecting careful avoidance of repeats.
