The Wild Wild Western Water Wars - The American Prospect As a changing climate bakes and dries up the Colorado River, the seven basin states can’t agree on how to share the declining water resources.

in the American West, we've got totally nonsensical 174-year-old legal structures about water rights colliding with climate change-fueled drought, with the federal government AWOL prospect.org/2026/04/17/w...

Dear Strib: Tired of Minneapolis City Hall Drama? Focus on Something Else. - Racket The Star Tribune's obsession with a supposedly dysfunctional Minneapolis City Council overplays minor issues, lets the mayor oft the hook, and obscures what the city has accomplished.

Frey wants it both ways. Take away council's power on the most day to day impactful things like public works and public safety, then criticize them when they do anything else

Yeah so this is bad. The mayor seems to think there's no reason to have a city council at all

We Caught Up With the Viral Pacers Couple—Here’s What They’d Like the Internet to Know Meet Grace and Michael, the couple who became a meme Thursday night for their conversation caught on the Pacers’ broadcast. So, what were they talking about?

This is either the biggest dork shit ever or beautiful or both.

Amazing: the viral pacers bickering couple were actually yakking about uh the Ben Sasse podcast and hashing out ways to rejigger liberal arts education www.si.com/nba/pacers/v...

I’m not in favor of people but moving teams but if you were a billionaire who wanted an MLS team in your market, why wouldn’t you buy this one and move it? Montreal’s ownership is only interested in sitting around as the average MLS team value appreciates.

I will be filling this out because at the federal, state, and local levels, our elected legislative leaders vote on confirmations and appointments put forward by the executive. We should not be working to undermine this critical aspect of separate powers.

Thanks to Josh for getting the word out about this meeting. To add a couple things to his summary of the proposed amendments: The executive officers Josh mentions — City Operations Officer and Community Safety Commissioner — were created by ordinance in 2022.

Perhaps the best refutation of Wurman's position is the ultimate timidity of his own amicus brief before the Supreme Court. In public and on social media, Wurman is uncompromising in his views. But in the final analysis, synthesizing his best arguments for the nine justices, Wurman's brief oozes with self-doubt. His conclusions are tempered by words like "likely," and questions on which
he is strident in public are described as "difficult." His key claim that undocumented parents are not subject to the United States' complete jurisdiction is reduced to a suggestion: "Whether unlawfully present aliens are subject to the complete jurisdiction of the United States is less clear, but three reasons suggest they are not." His contention that temporary visitors were excluded from birthright citizenship becomes "at best unsettled." "The Wurman brief," as one
amicus brief against the government noted, "deserves plaudits for the candid way that it highlights the weaknesses of its own
argument."

The city council will consider TOMORROW whether to put us on the hook for something north of $48m in public funding for a police/fire/etc training center. Not as big as Atlanta's Cop City, but same idea: advocates say we must follow the "national trend."

Good time to contact your councilmember!

Mueller in both his report and testimony thought that he was laying out a damning case against Trump — far worse than the same conduct that had gotten Nixon forced out of office — and then the media covered it as "TRUMP TOTALLY EXONERATED: NOTHING THERE"

a hugely underrated aspect of parliamentary systems is the snap election. far superior to impeachment, which was a dumb design to start with and straight up does not work anymore

Don’t Fall for the Folk-Tales - Racket For years, the watchdog group Revolving Door Project, which scrutinizes executive branch appointees, has raised concerns about Folk's career trajectory.

Opinion: Folk’s legal career exemplifies the exact type of dealing that corrodes public trust in government. He entered public service, accumulated connections and influence, then leveraged them to advance private interests.
