This Women’s History Month, we honor Helen Keller not only for her perseverance, but for her vision of a more just and equitable society.
Keller was a committed socialist, joining the Socialist Party in 1909, who believed disability, poverty, and inequality were deeply connected—supporting labor movements, advocating for women’s suffrage and birth control, and speaking out against war and economic injustice.
The Helen Keller you learned about in school is only part of the story.
Helen Keller is often remembered for overcoming extraordinary barriers as the first deafblind person to earn a Bachelor’s degree. But her story is also one of activism.
The following Black-led organizations fight for change year-round across the valley, and donating your time or money is one of the most meaningful ways to stand in solidarity.
As Black History month comes to a close, the Phoenix metro Democratic Socialists of America encourages our community to continue celebrating and uplifting our Black brothers and sisters beyond the month of February.
It is up to us to collectively reject imperialism, colonial violence, and war profiteering. A better world is possible. Let’s build it together.
We reject the lie that war keeps us safe. War devastates communities, fuels displacement, deepens global instability, and sacrifices human lives for political power and profit.
Phoenix Metro DSA unequivocally condemns this joint act of illegal military aggression and the broader imperial projects of both the United States and Israel that perpetuate endless war.
On February 28, 2026, The US and Israel launched 3 airstrikes on Iran, including one on an elementary school, killing several civilians. These are not “preemptive” strikes but distinctly imperialist acts of aggression against a sovereign nation, in callous disregard and spite of ongoing negotiations

“Some people would like to ignore the fact that he was a communist...It is time to cease muting the fact that Dr Du Bois was a genius and chose to be a communist. Our irrational obsessive anti-communism has led us into too many quagmires to be retained as if it were a mode of scientific thinking.”

Today we mourn the loss of a great community organizer and an icon of the civil rights movement.
Jackson's Rainbow Coalition was one of the few bright spots for left-wing politics in the 1980's and showed that there was an appetite for socialist politics and organizing in the Unites States.
Join us, Comrades!

As we identify the chains, we can begin choosing what comes next. For us, that conversation leads toward democratic socialism—and we’re excited to explore that together in future posts.
What resonated with you? What are you curious to learn more about? Let’s keep the conversation going below.
Capitalism touches nearly every part of our lives—our work, our time, our relationships, and our sense of what’s possible. Yet, as of 2025, nearly half of American's have a negative view of capitalism. (1/2)
