I don't want to be an activist.
But then my synagogue — the place where I have personally thrown teenage temper tantrums, where my mom volunteers and my dad was chairman (the man can’t read Hebrew but likes to be involved) — was attacked.
Anthropic is using copyright claims to try to stop its leaked code being used to train rival AI models.
Critics are noticing something of an irony, given Anthropic use of pirated materials to train its models.
I've dug into the whole thing for @techpolicypress.bsky.social

Additionally, for the love of God stop generating random AI images for silly attention-catching posts. It's not even pretty and it most often has the opposite effect of drawing people away

Always fascinated by the number of people we can reach these days 😯
Big shout-out to everyone involved in and supporting the project, we could not do this without you! ♥️
I hope that in the future we can expand on the classroom approach: streamed workshop with local support; best of both worlds!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
We are pleased to announce that Heather Turner @heathrturnr.fosstodon.org.ap.brid.gy has joined the R Core Team. She has been an active contributor notably via the R Dev Days, and has greatly improved cooperation between R Core and the R community in more ways #RStats.
I'm gutted not to be able to join Germany's first Collaborations Workshop in Göttingen in Sep. If any other community members plan to be there and want to work on @carpentries.carpentries.org -related project(s), let me know how we can support you! events.hifis.net/event/3249/o...
Had a great time at deRSE26 last week, catching up with old friends and making some new ones 🤩 Thanks to everyone who came to our sessions, and to the organisers for another excellent conference.
But the emphasis of the lesson is "workflow thinking": help learners build a mental model of their process, which steps would most benefit from parallelisation, how to manage that and avoid starting from scratch when something needs to change, etc. Specific workflow lang is (much) less important IMO
Countless hours lost to the "which workflow language" debate! 😂😭
@hpc-carpentry.bsky.social's philosophy is to empower Instructors to customise workshops to meet local community needs. This was the origin of the Maestro lesson, and easy to imagine somebody making a Nextflow equivalent too.
If you are a @carpentries.carpentries.org community member based in Germany and you want to apply for this, please let me know how I can support you!

We are so happy to announce the BIG and EXCITING news that on 5 February 2026 our Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve the adoption of @hpc-carpentry.bsky.social as an official lesson program of The Carpentries, launching on 1 September 2026! carpentries.org/blog/2026/02... 🚀
This is like when somebody introduced me to git-man-page-generator.lokaltog.net and told me that 1 in 10 pages it produces are real pages from the docs. That was over a decade ago and I still haven't figured out if they were joking.

The @carpentries.carpentries.org team will be working closely with @hpc-carpentry.bsky.social community leaders in the coming months, to integrate their programs and processes into ours. It is an exciting time!
The HPC Carpentry project has existed for a long time already. They began the formal process of incubation as a Carpentries Lesson Program in June 2024. During that time, the community has strengthened its governance, curriculum, and outreach efforts.
