I think 12 is a great number. 10 conference champions & 2 at large.

Currently nobody has a defined path. "Five highest ranked conference champions" leaves it up to opinion.

It's likely that ~50 teams had zero chance of making it when the season kicked off.

There WILL be 3-4 teams that win their conference and don't make the current format "playoffs"

A real playoff has a path for any team in said league. A real playoff isn't dependent on opinions. Wanna mix it up? Do it the way basketball does where each conference has an autobid & peoples opinions add a couple more teams.

Until we have a REAL playoff, there is no winning it all at the end.
