Ah.. so now the war machine can be morally AND physically sick! Nice 😎 if they didn’t like just war theory, just wait until they get a taste of privation theory.

Funny to see this. I was talking about it with my mom earlier. Even when medicated, it’s annoying because you’re fluctuating thru the micro states… and it’s just like.. dammit can I have synchrony rn? Also some parasympathetic nervous system activation?? It’s time to write/read/plan/problem solve 🥲

I am (somehow) a methanol poisoning survivor. It sucks 🤭 Took em nearly four bags of fluid before the dehydration eased up.

all these universities kept axing medieval history departments as if they thought tyrants beefing with the Pope was going to stop being relevant

The logicians of the both the low and high medieval period deserve acknowledgement. It would seem all we do now is reinvent their work absent a reference. We have lost continuity with distant conversations that are useable to us in one modality or another.

We need medieval history now than ever. I am sick of the so-called enlightenment serving as the mythic world historic beginning of useable “western” thought. Like… no liberal theorists, I am not going to pay homage to your thirty years war veteran pseudo-intellectuals.

We are presumed to be stupid things—a bit of raw breath, tissue, and passion. And this assumption is the genuine insult the “conservatives” implicitly author. I tire of it.

It is true that some forms lend themselves more to the pornographic gaze than others, but in truth, it is the comportment of the viewer in the end that determines what is seen and to what end it is seen, and that is an intelligence few are willing to predicate of the viewer.

A theologically mature society realizes that it is perhaps less the image which is pornographic, and more the gaze of the viewer itself which is pornographic.

Since when did airports stop carrying nicorette? People with embarrassing chemical dependencies also contribute to the common good, dammit.

And to suggest that making distinctions between what constitutes rational belief grounded in a dual dialectic with both present circumstance and the long expanse of the tradition and what is harmful and thereby outside of orthopraxis is not a “no true Scotsman” argument.

There is an obviously right and wrong way. One affirms the nameless, formless, timeless Good, whose predicates are many. The other is a flat, reductive, violent, and metaphysically challenged cosplay. I’ll call the hateful bigots *appropriating* my tradition’s theology fakers if I feel like it.

So we can critically challenge authority and tradition and economic structure, without spurning the Beautiful in the crossfire of our analyses.

Anyhow, this is why people dislike progressivism. The assumption is that the Beautiful is associated with antiquated power structures/the aesthetic preferences that hold them up, but this is only half true. People want to make beautiful things, and will do so according to resources, no matter what.

Also, it’s only illegible for two reasons: Many times and places, our society simply can’t read it point blank, which means personal variations on script make it increasingly illegible. Or, the instruction was poor (which is true in most cases).

Irrespective, we should be rearing people capable of making themselves legible across contexts—I am imagining a gentle Aurelian cosmopolitanism here… to that end, cursive genuinely helps. And let’s not forget that learning, verbal processing, and tactility go hand in hand.

I mean to say… a cursive note or letter is taken very seriously. As a skill, it can help one subvert power dynamics. It suggests one has more “form” or “completion” or “aesthetic cohesion.” Anyhow…. Coherency is not where human value begins or ends. Not by a long shot.

I am very young, twenty three. I was among the last generations to get the education. I then refined it by self teaching Spencerian. It makes a major difference in work settings where leaving notes matters and is part of intergenerational communication. It aesthetically conveys being “formed.”

Honestly this is an American take. The rest of world using the Latin alphabet still teaches it. It’s a matter of teaching aesthetic discipline really, more than anything else. Imagine one’s written meaning were hermeneutically layered: Words, coherent meaning, then the beauty of flowing script.

This cell shaped the Eros of three different generations 😭 For all those who grew up on the decaying the suburban plateau eating frozen food on a matted carpet, staring into the Zenith’s bubble screen while your grandparents’ smoke hung in lazy layers overhead… this cell is why you turned out cool 🤭

Ahh. I see. Still cool. I ask cause back in the day they (the Irish) used to have two separate tanks. One was super gased and all foam, the other a little flat—it would take two pulls for one draft. Anyhow, your foamy pints reminded me of the way Guinness used to be 😅

I see two kegs? Are you doing this in the old style where one is only lightly nitrogenated and the other is all foam?

Like… Put the buckwheat groats in the milk. Boil for 20 min. In the last two minutes, add: nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar, butter, & a dash of vanilla extract. Boom—healthy, protein rich, peasant breakfast. Added benefit: You don’t have to look like a douche bag while savoring it.

it's 2016: north carolina introduces a bill to ban trans people from using bathrooms safely. there's a national outcry; companies withdraw business up to and including the NCAA cancelling a publicized game. the bill fails.

it's 2026: kansas passes a law nullifying trans people's licenses. crickets.

By the time of the book’s composition, all three traditions were occupying different strata in the same Mediterranean polities; there would have been cross pollination. Nevertheless, Judaism beats everyone to the punch by centuries, articulating a God named Wisdom, among other transcendentals.
