It’s also leads to the strange conclusion that the only way to get the world we want, or even just to make the one we’ve got a little better, is to headfake our opponents into not realizing we did it.
Basically the right has to be turned into a dog watching a magic trick for anything to get done.

The impediment to a fair and real democracy in this country is the Republican Party. Democrats tried to create fair districting nationally and they rejected it. My god.

In my view, John Roberts's most impressive PR accomplishment is persuading an entire generation of Supreme Court commentators that he is anything other than a Republican politician who uses legalese to implement policies that Republican voters want
This is squared by the undecided being more Dem than GOP, but not sure about any of the candidates specifically.
Divide and conquer tactics seem to completely go over the heads of the people willingly being divided.
the elite aren’t powerful politicians or billionaires. common misconception. the elite is anyone i think is cooler than me, funnier than me, more artistic than me, or generally anyone i resent for daring to be happier than i am despite my immense wealth and political clout
On the other side playing receiver for Columbia during that game, actor Matthew Fox.
In a state that big it’s difficult to distinguish yourself as a top dog, and there is no limit to the number of pols who think of themselves as top dogs.
WR & DB scuffling 40yds away from the football.
Which, ironically, leads them to embrace demagogues who promise to take all their power from them anyway.
The through line is a fear of powerlessness taken to the absolute extreme.
Here’s the thing: I think that sincerely held hot takes are great. The problem is that the need to produce x number of hours of content a day means the vast majority of of these hot takes are contrived, people being paid to literally invent arguments out of nothing. And that can turn toxic quickly.
Large Man Smash Ball Far is still my favorite form of athlete
I'm a Mets fan from Long Island, but I never loved a piece of sports clothing I owned more than my Mark McGwire jersey from 1998 to 2000.
Their calculation is there is no future in right-wing politics if you are not a Trump supporter (or, after he kicks it, a supporter of the Trump legacy).
They'll be pretending this guy was great for the rest of our lives.
He has exactly one strategy: convince people he's not a loser through sheer force of will.
And hey it's worked for him before! But if there is that huge of a wipeout (like way worse than 2018) all bets are off.
The problem is, even with numbers like these, he's still by far the most popular figure in America among their own voters. More popular than any of them.
At the very least, they realize he's more popular with their shared marks than all of them are.
The idea of doing anything that would voluntarily decrease their own power is the ultimate nonstarter.
He may feel he was simply lucky. His dad was Governor there fairly recently, and he slipped in just under the wire before having the D after your name completely sinks you in any place Trump won big in.
Of course, that's all pre-2025 thinking that should be out the window now.
The devil's advocate argument is that a large portion of that magic was that his dad was KY Gov not that long ago, and he rode the last gasp of name recognition being able to beat out partisan lean to victory.
They're very good at repetition and letting those repeated lies seep out there into the world. Suddenly we're believing things about ourselves that aren't true.
A phenomenon I keep coming back to is the ability of right-wing media narratives to influence the thinking of even people who despise the right-wing. From the center to the far-left, no one is immune from letting their bad faith bullshit seep in if they aren't vigilant about keeping it out.
I've watched exactly one new episode since the GWB administration and that was because my dad's work friend's son wrote it (which is still cool as hell, to be clear).
Lots of people out there that are incapable of discerning quality reporting and storytelling from junk. Especially if the junk features someone famous they know.
He knows that high gas prices will hurt his chances even more than that.
especially compared to how seemingly unanxious they are about getting the diseases themselves. people just have no fucking clue how to assess risk.
One of these dudes looks like Ben Folds
That's definitely the most late 90's song
