why anyone's point of reference for the fundamental essence of a superhero would only come from the last century is beyond me. it wouldn't be difficult to see that superheroes have more function to society than imperialist propaganda if people didn't start critique from deeply bitter cynicism
the big 2's recent majorly evil actions have created both positive + negative waves on my timelines, the worst of which being an uptick in reductionist + overly prescriptive takes on what superheros are/are not and what function they serve
