@naturalice.bsky.social is now on Erasmus at Linnaeus University in Kalmar, Sweden, working with Prof. Markus Zöttl to study telomere dynamics in mole-rats.
Here’s a great shot by Yannick Francioli of one of the target species—science abroad never looked so cute!
Gabriela Damentka will investigate the evolutionary history of Terricola in Southern Europe from the Late Pleistocene to the early Holocene, using both ancient and modern DNA. She aims to clarify taxonomy and reveal responses to past climate change. This will be part of her doctoral dissertation!
@naturalice.bsky.social will be researching the climate-driven population dynamics of Arvicolinae in the Caucasus and Middle East using ancient DNA. This extends @mateuszbaca.bsky.social and Ola Deroń's previous work on the species.
🎉Congratulations🎉 @naturalice.bsky.social and
Gabriela Damentka for receiving Preludium-24 Grants!
For the next three years, the National Science Centre will support their research on Arvicolinae and Terricola!

@gnomoboleto.bsky.social hosted a super fun owl pellet workshop today!
Owl pellets are regurgitated balls of indigestible material like bones, fur, and feathers.
We found a few different voles and frogs in ours today.
How many scientists does it take to set up a new microscope?
We'll let you know when we figure it out 😩
