The lyrics to the Matilda musical hitting a little hard these days

11 months ago 0 0 0 0

My partner and I wanted one SO bad, we even test drove one and ran numbers... but the price point for the range just didn't make sense. Hope they keep them around and keep improving them - maybe in a few years! (Perhaps optimistic given... Everything.)

"I don't know what a bike lane is and how dare you block me from using it to pass you.
School zones don't apply to me.
Of course I won't signal lane changes - I'm so important, you should just know when I need to get over."

Hi @hamburger-helper.bsky.social - um why does the pasta come in plastic wrap now? That's wasteful packaging, it was just fine in the box.

Also, it reallyyyyy feels like there's less pasta actually. Wish I had an old box to measure and compare.

Also SOLIDLY seconding the person who told you to read @maryrobinettekowal.com's books, yes yes yes, everyone should

Okay @taylorjenkinsreid.bsky.social, your books have been on my TBR for too long apparently. I'm completely sold on reading the newest one, I'm charmed by this TLA interview, and loving that we both have 8 year old girls who love to read tell jokes and bake 😭❤️

"Stories are a way to experience something we're afraid of, safely." #TLA Keynote, @taylorjenkinsreid.bsky.social

(I'm not sure I got the words EXACTLY but the sentiment hopefully ❤️)

At least one session is thankfully addressing copyright issues/stealing from creators. I want to believe some of the others will maaaaybe touch on that as well as the environmental impacts, but it sure looks like most of them are looking at AI through a positive lens and I am not a fan.

Trying to reconcile how many presenters at the #TexasLibraryAssociation conference have mentioned the literacy crisis we're in - involving both children and adults - with the number of AI focused sessions.

At this point, I think I'm too deep in the series for it being "too spot-on" to be a deal breaker. I could have stopped in book 1 if that truly bothered me, it's too late now, plus a friend rec'd the series and she will be following up...so onward we march/read.

I don't know how to explain that I read fantasy partially for escapism but am still somehow relieved when the fantasy world reflects reality

but I also kinda hate when it's TOO obvious... And yey that's also not gonna stop me from reading it

"The hold list is long!"
Pick something else to read while you wait.

"My library doesn't have the book I want!"
You can often, if not usually, request they buy it or interlibrary loan it from another institution.

Mentioned further in the thread but if low income is a problem for a reader, the library is... Right... There. For SOME, a library may not be a realistic option, but for most in this situation it's simply an issue of patience.

Listening to the audio book for Challenger by @adamhigginbotham.bsky.social and if I wasn't already convinced Elon has no business being involved in space travel, hearing about the specificity of the tiles for the shuttles, paired with the cybertruck panels being just glued on...

When your brain moves super fast and your words don't make sense to others but your brain is also really slow when it comes to comprehending what other people say 😵‍💫

Just a blanket reminder to all library users:

We are SO glad you're here!
We're happy to help with anything within our means!

But also.
Please take care of our stuff.

Why is this so hard for some folks?

Wild Robot - this is not Matt Berry PLAYING a beaver - this is exactly what Matt Berry would be like were he a beaver. (An important distinction.)

And I am generally not a rereader - I make exceptions for books I REALLY love. but I don't want to reread each time a new installment comes out, I don't have the time or attention span for that.

I would be much obliged if authors would post videos that recap the previous book in a series when a new book drops. 😅 This is why I used to never read series until they were complete! I'm trying to support authors more as their books come out now but... I can't remember what all happened!

New to the world of Costco (and yes I joined in part BECAUSE they stood by DEI) and mostly loving it but some of y'all need to calm down on the parking lot.

Is anyone (re)watching West Wing as a way to cope with the current political climate? I'm tempted but worried it would just hurt.

This book challenge episode of Abbott Elementary hurts. Because of how easily it's resolved.

Why do publishers think I want to attend a webinar about upcoming releases? Librarians are busy, y'all. Just gimme a quick list of the biggest names or the most unique titles, quit wasting my time and clogging my inbox.

Is this a suuuuuper small issue compared to other things going on, yes

But it's not nothing

It just... It just feels like someone who clearly doesn't read and who is actively going after public education has no business having a library in their honor. Liiiiike.

Anyone remember those people who screamed that removing late fees for library materials was teaching users that they are allowed to be irresponsible/unaccountable?

I rather suspect they are the very same as those who deny that they or their kid damaged a book they checked out.

One of the bad things about being an adult with established income is that in order to earn said income I have to do things like go to work when I REALLY don't want to, like today. (Like most days. Despite generally liking most parts of my job )
