Expeditions Venture to the dangerous north in this tile-exploration sequel to Scythe.

Between chores and errands and all the rest I didn't have time to play (even solo it's a 60-90 min game at best), but super prepped for next time. FTR the game is Expeditions, which looks insanely great. boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/37...

Totally off book today -- spent the day unboxing a boardgame we bought a few months ago, then watched a couple of how-to-play videos (thank all the gods for the how-to-play people). The game has some minis which I want to paint, so watching a couple of painting tutorial refreshers.

Sitting here crying while after getting WhatsApped the photo on the right, so let me tell you a little story about how we got here from the photo on the left and why repatriation research matters!

Current re-read is Connie Willis' Doomsday Book, part of the Oxford Time Travel series. It's a good time.

This would save me so much time and mental effort that I would pay a premium for this service. C'mon already.

I am still waiting for someone to build an agentic AI app that will: 1) develop a menu plan based on our preferences and previous menu plans, 2) ask me to approve the plan, 3) build a grocery list based on that plan, 4) scan local grocery flyers for the best deals, 5) order everything for delivery.

Ok did nothing that I had planned on doing today because it's SO NICE OUT, so i went for a longass walk just to see how far I could go (I've been super lazy this winter). Made 10k, could have done 12-15k but my feet got too hot (new hiking shoes, still breaking them in). Yey!

A comic panel of a crazed woman holding a broom, yelling "CLEAN ALL THE THINGS!" It is from the ever delightful hyperbole and a half https://readingatrecess.com/tag/clean-all-the-things/

In other news, we finally have some actual spring weather, so the urge to clean everything and tidy up the gardens is strong. (Comic panel from Hyperbole and a Half readingatrecess.com/tag/clean-al...)

I need to do (many) more glaze tests before I actually use my own glazes on actual things. I also have a bunch of commercial glazes to use up (on actual things). I have probably 4 kiln loads of actual things that are ready to glaze. Somewhere in all of this is a plan.

While I was setting up Bluetooth on my new computer, I discovered an unfamiliar device whose ID I had to google. It turned out to be our air fryer.
Closer inspection of the user manual reveals that the air fryer has an app.
The air fryer.

i hate when i can't find the remote for my "smart tv" to turn it off. because of course it doesn't have any buttons on it. so, i have to download an app on my phone, login to it, enter the code that shows up on the tv, sync the remote, then figure out the button with a moon icon means off.

Learning pottery is such a process. I'm only a few years in and still having a struggle. Luckily it's pretty fun ๐Ÿ˜€

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

Yeah, but it's all part of the process. I had used the same base recipes to test different colours, which is why so many failed :)

1 week ago 1 0 0 0

Yeah, if nothing else I have some nice colours to work with (once I sort out the other failing bits, lol)

Most of my glaze tests failed because of crazing (different thermal expansion for the glaze and the clay body), so now i'm deep in the "htf do i fix this?" weeds. So much more testing to come. I totally get why people buy commercial glazes, but holy crapballs they are just insanely expensive now.

A photo of the inside of my kiln showing glaze test tiles before firing -- they are all various shades of whites, greys, and light browns. Glazes look pretty boring at this point. :)

A photo of the inside of my kiln showing glaze test tiles AFTER firing -- they run a range of colours from white through black, including various turquoise, greens, blues, some oranges and greys. They are mostly a lovely glossy finish, and a couple satin matte.

Kiln's open! Here's before and after pix. Super fun. Lots of good stuff, a couple of failures (none of my floats actually floated, alas), but I have some solid recipes to use and build on from here. FUN! If there's interest I'll post close ups of some later, so let me know if you'd like to see. ๐Ÿชด
