On this day in 2019, I witnessed one of the coolest things ever. A lenticular cloud lit-up by a setting sun over the Perito Morena Glacier in Argentina.

Everyone wants a faithful adaptation, but much like translation from Japanese to your language of choice, the translation from page to screen should also have room for potential creative choices that enhance the tone and atmosphere of the work.

oh ditto...we're really in it now...
People who go around saying there isn't any webcomics out to read need to find people in webcomic community and get some sweet recs. I know the algorithm online nowadays is borked, but there's a bazillion webcomics out there.
I just finished my tenth one of this year. You can do it! Find comics!
I think it was an evolutionary mistake to give up our tails! I think it would be harder to think of ourselves as separate from other animals if we're dragging around a skin covered, maybe hairy, (maybe not) prehensile appendage.
Tell me they have never truly used DeviantArt without telling me they've never truly used DeviantArt.
I really enjoyed the first one so I'm glad they tried to make a sequel.
That's great. I am glad it's easy for some people to do the right thing. I am just so curious what it is that makes majority people stick to P*tter when they are constantly being told how J*anne is using her P*tter money. People are using lots of back breaking logic to get around her.
So Star Trek fans see the planet of the week episodes that almost always tie back into a moral human struggle and how the characters navigate it. So of course those people are more likely to be ready when bad faith posers try to come in and say what Roddenberry's vision was.
When you connect to the character first that means there is a diversity of character that you can connect with. Not everyone is a Kirk, and if you only had Kirk you wouldn't have the fan base the Star Trek has.
The people who try to steer any discourse about Star Trek always get smacked down so quickly. Do you think that people obsess over Star Trek because of the books on blue prints of the enterprise? Usually they start by connecting with the characters & then they get deeper.
I think about how Star Trek is created by so many people. Roddenberry started it off, he had some say in ST:TNG but it was in the hands of so many writers. Dr Who is similar. In that situation it can't help but be a diverse and thought text. An IP like P*tter still has the word of god to adhere to
It's hard to let go of a long held fandom, it's hard to navigate. But also the type of people drawn to a text that isn't really that explicitly about letting go of long held beliefs when present with new information, might not be they type of people to let go.
Star Trek has always had very clear anti-racist, socialist, workers rights, empathy driven messages. Where like Star Wars is more nebulously "don't be bad or too fascist, but mainly look at these cool ships"
I think, you could join much richer and better fandoms. Like Star Trek, but then as we've seen with the W*ir interview lots of people like a text that doesn't wear its messages on its sleeves. Or even, text that isn't as easy to bend to your personal political views.
Do people enjoy P*tter because it's popular. Like we as humans year to enjoy something collectively. Some of us want niche interests, but most of us want to join the big thing. I think that's natural. But we are more than our impulses.
I could be wrong, but it seems like it was easier for the majority of people to let go of N*il G*iman (who I think is pretty clearly the better writer) than it had been for people to let go of R*wling. Is it because, besides Coraline, G*iman doesn't have a major IP?
Weir: beep boop i have always enjoyed escapist science fiction that is devoid of deeper meaning
Weir: like the classic star trek
Weir: harlan ellison is so good at that beep boop
HG Wells: oh no
Harlan Ellison: I WILL MURDER YOU AND EVERYONE HERE
Adorable!
This is too sexy Mr. Frodo.
