There’s still a federal sales tax on bicycles.
thanks be given to your ontario provincial government
Things bike helmets will protect you from:
-Head injuries from a slow speed fall
-Light rain
-Being blamed for not wearing a helmet if you get hit by someone driving 5,000 lbs of metal and glass
Things bike helmets won't protect you from:
-Everything else
🤷🏻♀️
I created an on line map of the Ottawa - Gatineau #cycling network. For the fun of it, I added numbers to the nodes in the #bike network, based on what they do in the #Netherlands and #Belgium. There, it is a smart wayfinding system. Here I created just the concept on line. #ottbike @timtierney.ca

Members of Strong Towns Ottawa introducing themselves to each other during the ice breaker
Such an amazing turnout last night at our monthly meeting! Great conversations about next steps for bus lanes on Bank Street, the upcoming election, and our future advocacy!
If you're looking to join in on the fun, check out our next events at luma.com/STO
We look forward to seeing you there!
Today Ajay of @bettertransitottawa.ca had a wonderful delegation at Transit Committee about the decision to cut back on the already watered down Bus Lanes on Bank Street pilot. We highly recommend watching it!

not one positive comment on this weird flex by the mayor
Good morning Ottawa.
Bonjour Ottawa.
It's been 48hrs since I called 311 to report these needles in a park in the Glebe, and they're still there this morning.
Hey but at least I'm paying the lowest taxes in Ontario.
Lift kit, oversized wheels, blacked out windows, licence plate covered. But sure…. Bike lane are the problem.
Police need to step up enforcement including at the source: mechanic shops who performed these sort of modifications, should be fined and put out of business.
Yesterday a last minute walk-on motion undid years of planning from city staff, which sought feedback from thousands of residents from all across the city. This makes people lose trust in our system.
If you want to help plan to fix this, join us tonight at our monthly meeting.

This is mostly a rhetorical question, as I suspect you and I are broadly aligned on it, but I’d love for someone at the City, or on Council, to explicitly lay out how many public comments in support of a thing it takes to outweigh one business owner’s comment against a thing.
They want to hide the data because they don’t want their political decisions constrained by reality.
By ensuring we get no data about the effect of parking on bus lanes we are essentially setting this pilot up for failure. I hope you understand that that single hour meant a lot more than you're making it out to be. Being able to see how much parking slows buses down was vital.
...and that would have happened without this motion to reduce it from 6 hours per day to just 4.
I will let @shawnmenard.bsky.social himself explain how I feel about this motion.
The important detail is that parking is already restricted during these periods. This removes the only times when parking lanes would be supplanted by bus lanes, which makes any talk about this being a "pilot" for "gathering data" useless. Congrats on your parking spaces I guess.
Why private
With respect councilor, there is hardly anything that has been accomplished here considering now that the time of day bus lanes only take effect during the exact same hrs parking is not permitted anyway. The 24h bus lanes by Fifth almost entirely exist to simply be a visual reminder to not park-
It is profoundly demoralizing to watch this City Council prattle on and on about the dismal state of transit in this city, and then spit in the face of transit users at any and every opportunity that crosses their desks to actually do something about the fucking problem.
I am incandescent.
Motion brought forth to council by Councillor Menard, which sought to restrict the bus lanes on Bank Street from 3 hours in each peak direction to 2 hours.
Disappointment at council today. Council just passed a motion from Councillor Menard for the Bank Street bus lane study which will restrict bus lanes even further from staff's proposed 3 hours to 2 hours. This means we will get no data about how parking affects bus flow in the area.
Geopolitics update: pleased to announce that after six weeks of furious struggle I have successfully removed my penis from the penis trap which was labelled 'OBVIOUS PENIS TRAP'. This is a major strategic victory for me. No questions from the press
Tomorrow City Council will discuss and vote on the final approval for the Bank Street bus lane pilot.
We still think it is a huge mistake that the city took out their planned event day bus lanes. Every side seems to support this, here's Darrell Cox (BIA Executive Director) saying it's a great idea
That gives me an idea:
Cana-duh?! The party of common sense.
Kantnada. The party of deontology. We Kant stand with notwithstanding.
Can-nada. Politicians do nothing. At least we're up front about it.
A meme image of Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, wincing away from the head of an alien xenomorph from Alien 3. The text on the alien says 'click here to use our new AI features!' And the text on Ripley's face says 'Me'.
Every. Goddamn. Company.
This
I just went for a walk with my kid who was on her balance bike. Sidewalks made a huge difference in my comfort level as a parent. I can't believe PWIC heard from a few malcontents trying to block their construction in Manor Park.
