Cracking Branch Meeting last night! We'd like to thank our visiting Councillor from the Midlands, Tonia Daley-Campbell, for delivering our Council Report & to our 3 intrepid @equityuk.bsky.social staff members (Anna, Karen & Kirsten) for delivering our Anti-Fascist Training Taster Session.

Excellent work from our trade union 💕🇪🇺 let's have an end to EU touring chaos.

UK performers are losing out on overseas work because of the heavy admin & financial burden of taking UK artists to the EU. Yesterday Equity's Head of Policy Tom Peters was in Parliament at the CMS select committee calling for changes to make touring easier for UK artists.

Every strand of the arts are *already* the preserves of the elite. As I argued last year👇 TV is one of the worst offenders. What no one seems prepared to acknowledge is this is dramatically worsened by there being far less work across the board.

The Guardian view on the class crisis in the arts: the UK’s culture must not become the preserve of the elite | Editorial Editorial: Countless reports and celebrities have called for greater working-class representation, so why has nothing changed?

As a working-class boy, it was massively inspirational seeing all the working-class singers, actors, directors, playwrights dancers and artists that were visible and successful.
Now it’s appalling to see the way in which we’ve been shut out almost completely. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Denmark to tackle deepfakes by giving people copyright to their own features Amendment to law will strengthen protection against digital imitations of people’s identities, government says

Nothing rotten in the state of Denmark when it comes to this – just a level-headed policy that gives people ownership over what is rightfully theirs 👏

It’s a huge achievement and something similar here would go a long way to ensure Equity members have the protection they need!

This is terrific news for those who’ve never seen @TheBearFX
and a fascinating new development in the TV landscape in the UK. The key question remains: how can local British stories that don’t sell globally still find funding to be made end up on these platforms too?
