"Artificial intelligence is an extractive technology that relies on the brutal labor of underpaid workers around the world."
It’s unreasonably important to me that people know JewBelong isn’t some big org, it’s just Archie Gottesman, a hugely shitty racist rich white woman who used to make billboards for her daddy’s company and pivoted to vomiting her bullshit racist crybullying onto them in the name of “antisemitism”
DID YOU KNOW
that if an AFAB person (including teen) goes on Accutane for acne, they must join a federal program called iPLEDGE (because the meds are "potentially harmful to fetuses")
wherein they must get bloodwork & a pregnancy test
each month
& fill out forms re: what birth control they're on
Yeah. I don't mean the app isn't impressive, I just mean that building that kind of self-hosting experience seems hard.
I'm going to do my best to find some time to evaluate the project and contribute.
> In the next update, self-hosting should be straightforward, with a small set of services: Fluxer Server (TypeScript) using SQLite for persistence, Gateway (Erlang), and optionally LiveKit for voice and video.
Holy shit. No points until it's actually built, but that's exciting.
ah. yikes.
what's the context for the ding? did someone come out saying Van Rootselaar was not trans?
The workbench of Glitchlet, showing a file panel, a code panel, and a preview panel.
Last year's shutdown of @glitch.com was a huge blow to my pedagogy. Glitch was ideal for creative coding classes and workshops. I looked around for alternatives. But there was nothing that was open, decentralized, and not at the mercy of VCs or Big Tech.
So I built my own. Here's Glitchlet.
age verification is functionally a huge security hazard for _all_ internet users but the government will call you a danger to children if you point this out
Also do notice, these two Supreme Court decisions dropped the *same day*:
- States can restrict online speech if it is "adult".
- The mere depiction of homosexual existence can be objectionable adult content.
A plus B equals C
it drives you insane how much erosion of freedom is justified by concern for kids when the people who actually hurt them will never face consequences
Yep. Several in-person community spaces here organize entirely through Discord, and I'm not excited to lose access to them.
I'm sorry that it's inconvenient and annoying but at some point people have to realize that "let's all rely on that one service run by one commercial company" will always lead to the same problems like with Discord right now, especially for marginalized people.
Personally I love Zulip and Mattermost at least used to be a good choice but idk what they're up to these days
As a Matrix user of many years, I do not recommend Matrix as a Discord replacement.
"Are you in the right headspace to receive a technical correction you might perceive as pedantic?"
Makes sense to me, thank you! I was just ranting about retirement savings (over on Masto) and this kind of completes the picture for why it feels so much like a scam...
401(k) plans seem like the odd item out in this list - would you be willing to elaborate on why you are against them?
Is this not something we've been talking about for years?
Full face respirator is the way to go here. They make ones that don't touch the nose at all.
"In the bleak dystopian far future of 2035, AI companies have moved their data centers to the ocean floor to protect them from physical destruction by activists. When a whole region goes offline, only the brave Player Character can confront the greatest evil of all: Shark CEOs."
For the record I completely agree with this. It's fine to make things that are centralized; my quarrel with Bluesky is that it lies about its centralization. Blacksky isn't doing that here.
Doing art badly is good and sacred
A small but very deep thing that bothers me about generative AI as a shortcut to practice and work and skill is the basic assumption that it’s impossible to take pleasure in a creative pursuit that you aren’t very good at and I assure you that is not the case
If the world is such that people cannot practice art, I would rather change the world than change art
One of these days I should share my calendar that has 12 weeks of 30 days plus feast days for each solstice and equinox and one or two new years' days depending on if it's a leap year or not
Intercalary days >>>>>>>>>
