This work I do under an old stereo microscope (Wild from Switzerland) with 10-40x magnification. For the tweezers I use the Nr. 5 from DUMONT, also Switzerland. For the tiny leaves just strip of some and choose the best.

Thanks for the question. I made a picture plate of a moss from my old moss collection from the Neotropic 2001.
Btw your blanket/carpet will get very beautiful.
Beautiful picture. The moss with the sporophytes is Ptychostomum capillare, the creeping one Hypnum cupressiforme. Unfortunately no Bonfire.

Looks a bit like R. grandifolium, but plants and leaves are much smaller.
I do not know exactly, what you want to know. I just use water to work with the microscope. But what is mounting medium?
Rhodobryum grandifolium (Tayl.) C. Müll.
Venezuela, Andes, Merida, surrounding Laguna Coromoto, Subparamos, on open humose rock, gneis, 3000 m, leg M. Lüth 3305
Very nice landscape with a lot of bryophytes. I think L. cupressina is quite common in that region. Perhaps it is overgrown here from one of the big pleurocarp moss. But it will come at another place again.
Beim Hineinfassen aber bitte nicht zerstören. Das Polster ist vermutlich Jahrzehnte alt.
Du wirst sie schon begeistern! Da hab ich keine Bedenken...
