1/ "This is the pivot point in the energy transition folks. Fossil chaos drives people to electrotech, as this is the first oil shock with a superior alternative. " says @ember-energy.org @kingsmillbond.bsky.social
We argued similarly last week at Wesleyan (slides here)

Infowars/Onion combo logo in rainbow saying “I support the onion’s hostile media takeover.”
It’s finally happened. After 18 months. Finally, a media merger you can root for.
We're tracing U.S. fossil fascism in a quick 3-part @drilledmedia.bsky.social miniseries (ep 2 drops tomorrow), from WWI to the Red Line Agreement to now. Important context for the current moment! drilled.media/podcasts/dri...

New report just out from @investigate-europe.eu: Microsoft and DigitalEurope (a tech lobby group) decided they don't EVER want anyone knowing the energy consumption of individual data centres
So they lobbied successfully to get their own wording copy-pasted into regulations in the EU.
All federal wind power R&D at the D of Energy is $137 million.
This junta is paying 7x the amount it spends on all wind power R&D just to kill 1 wind project.
This is our tax $$$ being wasted.
The US government paid $1 billion to kill a wind farm just because. Just absolute idiocy in every direction heatmap.news/energy/total...
My good friend @amywestervelt.bsky.social talks about how she inadvertently ended up covering Thiel and Musk via her climate coverage in California. “The fossil fuel industry and tech industry operate in the same way. … I see this as an unholy alliance.” Says they use the same PR & law firms. #ijf26
best case: once Trump leaves office, historically unpopular, the next eight years are characterized by a rejection of anything that looks far-right, in the same way Reagan followed Carter and went so far as to tear the White House solar panels down.
EVERYONE SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT THIS:
Conflict of interest doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Chad Bianco really seized over 650,000 ballots based on conspiracy theories that don’t even hold up to basic scrutiny. No credible fraud. No real discrepancy.

That's not the same as saying consumers don't have the money to keep buying things, because they do, but the hedonic returns on purchases have been dropping, which means basically the cost of pleasure is rising even if product costs are not.
it'd be great if you could get off Substack
Well Done Festus, MO!
So it turns out paying people a living wage doesn’t collapse the economy; it’s almost like the rich have been lying to us to maintain their power over our lives.

Not once in this story does @politico.com mention that US factories employ ~89,000 fewer employees than a year ago.

More debt for American government, private wealth created for billionaires. The debt of the US is the wealth in their private pockets. You've been looted for decades.
Women know that speaking out will get them some delightful combo of seeing their own career ended for being difficult to torrents of hate, harassment and threats.
And the harasser will do a Notes App apology, keep their head down for a year, and then be back
The wrong question is dominating the energy crisis debate.
Every interview starts the same: where do we find replacement fossil fuels and what happens to prices?
In this BBC interview I push back.
This is the moment to talk about escaping fossil fuel dependence - not the daily market noise.
I think it's telling that even though most Americans loathe tech oligopolies and their air-conditioned warehouses full of computers, almost every energy pundit with a big platform takes it as understood that adding entire cities' worth of electricity demand from data centers is Good and Inevitable.
I genuinely struggle to imagine the minds of people who could live through the last year and a half and somehow still believe that liberal arts professors are the primary problem facing 2026 America - I struggle with that more than I do with imagining what it’s like to be an octopus.

It's been nearly five hours since the president of the United States posted a graphic snuff video of a man beating a woman to death with a hammer and there's no mention of it on the New York Times, Washington Post or CNN websites.
Claims we have no power to impact what happens are nevertheless an intervention in what will happen, by discouraging participation, by encouraging passivity, surrender, acquiescence. If you insist that a given outcome is inevitable, you are lobbying against resistance.
NYT is a repeat offender pushing the idea that activists are scary radicals
