How am I supposed to not take every possible chance to show off how beautifully @art-by-pyra.bsky.social has realized by son Jaardum (and also the one piece of evidence that exists that I DO comm other artists, sometimes, done by keessenart on Insta)
Prolly some gay ass showtunes, like jcss or rocky horror
Blizzard has to have a vendetta against dwarf paladins the way Legion let you recruit 2 night elves and a Dreadlord but no dwarf and the fact that they still donโt have their own Paladin order unlike every single other Paladin race
RIP my man Koruth
Now that thereโs 13 classes and 26 races both of which have numerous fantasies under their umbrella, I think the bloat has really killed any attempt at writing a story with a unified theme. The Horde arenโt all outcasts anymore, and the Alliance barely has a coherent ideology other than โpeace.โ
I think genuinely the most useful way to understand modern WoW storytelling is that the factions are now irrelevant and theyโre more interested in telling racial/class fantasy stories.
Which honestly? I prefer. I think Void Elves and Blood Elves have more in common than Earthen and Zandalari do.
Oh, look who is finally OPEN for work -- it's me. ๐จ

haters will whine that kaldorei can be warlocks now and then roman will make the sickest fucking looking warlock i've seen in my life using the character model and lore, brother you are cooking
i said this literally just to ragebait in completely bad faith and it still makes me laugh so hard when i think about it
meanwhile jaardum has knocked out the wall of their sunroom for the 5th time because the alignment is wrong yet again and he's losing his mind (he doesn't believe in using a level or measuring tape (he is me))
Like, Warcraft III did it first. The reason we're seeing these antagonistic factions/races like the Man'ari and Amani treated more sympathetically is because the defining ethos of Warcraft is;
A. Finding an antagonistic group in fantasy media
B. Writing them as redeemable and heroic
I've been thinking about this the past couple days and honestly the Penitent Man'ari/Redeemed Demon/Nashabor plotline they've been seeding (arguably, in my head, since Legion) is just classic Warcraft, a universe where the pitch is, 'What if this traditionally 'evil' fantasy race had nuance?'
Overall I think the progression of the storyline of Quel'Thalas is a positive one, but the progression of elves as a whole is a net negative. I see shades of the modern Draenei storyline (that I love) in the Void and High Elves quest chapters, but the Nightborne and Night Elves just don't fit well.
The strength of Midnight's narrative is that everything that is there can either be lengthened or cut and it becomes great. You don't actually need to add much of anything, they just decided to pull too many things too quickly while also making some very odd calls. The bones that are there are good!
I actually like the resolution to the High Elves' and Void Elves' plotline, I just think it would be a generally stronger narrative if we just focused on that, not even extended the campaign any. Just nix the Kaldorei and debatably the Nightborne, as they're already unified, to make way for it.
I think what hurts the most about Midnight's MSQ is it's clearly a very decent story that has a number of glaring, crippling, terrible mistakes that makes me want to pull my hair out.
Shandris, please, why are you here. Go home. This can just be a story of Thalassian reunification.
What can I say, he's a handsome man
spent so much time dealing with art funk/block, and the only thing that pulled me out was this scrungly creature. but i love him so its fine
(anyway, jaardum belongs to mcflizzel)
tears in my fuckin eyes after the raid cinematic that was the funniest possible conclusion to this story oh my god. how did they write a canon finale thatโs funnier than any possible attempted parody of itself. 10/10 no notes, engineered to piss off so many people in a lab
LMFAO
such a fucking all-time banger tears in my eyes every time i read it
I am finding myself convinced that the MSQ in its current form could've been a lot stronger and without any major backlash if they stretched it out over more than a single chapter that's maybe a dozen individual quests and a single instance. Maybe if we got a whole chapter a week focused on an elf?
Like my ideal rewrite for 'with what army' would've been some combination of:
- High/Blood/Void Elves/Darkfallen
- Forsaken/Draenei
- Amani
Let this be a Quel'Thalas story, where Thalassians save their kingdom instead of outsiders with some genetic link as 'elves' be the heroes
I like faction collaboration plotlines, but to me the factions that collaborate have to make sense. What do the Night Elves have in common with the Blood Elves? Why wouldn't the Draenei and Forsaken already living in Quel'Thalas step up? Where are the Darkfallen?
it's crazy the rollercoaster of quality midnight's storytelling is
i gotta get the fuck out of this trial of style man
If you insult my MVP like this again Iโll send all your characters hate mail. In this house Gelbin Mekkatorque is a hero end of story
sorry elfchud, its the gnomechad that gets the cerulean hawkstrider
sorry I read that and thought those were supposed to be elf pronouns
A heavily scarred armored Draenei woman with strong features and ash-darkened eyes stares grimly at something off frame. Draenei runes have been inscribed in ash on her crest and horns, and she is missing two tendrils, part of one ear, and has a cracked horn.
