NASA just dropped this image of Artemis II astronaut Christina Koch looking back at us. The first woman to ever see our planet in its entirety. I’m not crying you’re crying 🥹🔭🧪 📸: NASA

scan of a gouache painting of Philly's mascot Gritty, a furry orange muppet with wild eyes, as a wrathful deity crowned with gold flames, dancing on modern imps of ignorance and cruelty, on the Columbia bridge over the Schuylkil, in front of a burning Cybertruck in the river, flanked by offerings of pretzels and Tastykakes. It holds up a progress flag on a hockey stick, a middle finger, a sprig of ginkgo, a big cup of Wawa coffee, one empty blessing hand, and a molotov cocktail ready to throw. The sky is pastel dawn colors over Fairmount Park.

so i don't live there now but i am From Philly, it's meaningfully part of me even 20+ years out

and i'm not into hockey but this guy has transcended mere hockey mascot, imo. i've been thinking about this kind of treatment for him basically since go & especially since they doubled down on the flag-

"concept artists can experiment with AI to make their lives easi-"

wrong

I smack you with Claire Hummel's immaculate and detailed understanding of costume design, which she got by studying historical references, which made her strong, which you will not become by relying on AI

get good

The older shows and films are also built off the backs of union workers. It’s awfully convenient for the studio execs that filming everything on the Volume just happens to avoid all those pesky unionized set builders. Why pay union rates when you can exploit underpaid VFX artists to fix it in post!

Especially with a game that big and with that many people on it! I doubt everyone on the team knows every single word that's going into the game. Who's going to catch it and recognize it as placeholder? How can players trust that the placeholder AI text has been thoroughly stripped out?

One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

^this tbh. 19 episodes is more than enough to get a handle on what apothecary diaries is all about, and MaoMao is the core of it. It sounds like it’s just not your thing, which is totally fine!

I could quote any part of this article and it would be incredibly poignant, but this part in particular stuck out to me. Art is meant to challenge people, to make people uncomfortable; but too often the people on top are willing to sacrifice it for the sake of commercial viability.

Also how childish is it to be boiling down a piece of art to just an enumeration of things it depicts that you find objectionable. If we care about video games we have to eradicate this kind of reductive nonsense.

people getting their spotify wrapped today: it's a great time to switch to another service. spotify is doubling and tripling down on taking ICE's business and running ads.

switching to tidal took me all of a few minutes and they made their own annual most-played thing anyway.

A lot of people on here will (correctly!) sing the praises of Arcadia and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, but it should also be noted that his translation of Anton Chekov’s The Seagull is genuinely one of the greatest translations to exist.
