AI slop is making life worse for everyone: Draft2Digital will be instituting fees in an effort to stem the onslaught of "low-quality accounts": a $20 activation fee for new accounts, & a $12 annual maintenance fee for accounts earning less than $100 over 12 months draft2digital.com/blog/underst...
It's not about any specific indicators. It's about the combination of several indicators. It becomes somewhat instinctual over time. Feels wrong. Like an uncanny valley sort of thing. That's the most detail I give. Anything more would be helping the other side.
It's an "AI"-empowered problem. Supercharged spam and a bunch of people misled into thinking it can produce worthwhile work (which was part of the "AI" marketing pitch). Keep in mind that our guidelines specifically state we don't want this (even if it could be good), so entitlement is also an issue
It's increased my workload by about 20-25%. So much for efficiency gains.
We haven't closed or reduced opportunities to submit, but I know some have. It's also made people a lot more suspicious or paranoid. So yeah, not good for authors. Pretty much as expected. Hate it.

Hmmm... Squirrels have never submitted a generated story.
Squirrel gets treat.

For the record, I’m not opposed to AI writing and art because it’s *bad*. There’s a lot of bad writing and art I’m perfectly happy to say just isn’t for me. I’m opposed to AI writing and art because what it does to get to bad is *also* bad.

We welcome submissions of science-fantasy. Past of our Science-Fantasy Month issues are here: www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/issue-tags/s...
