In „Überfall. Wenn der Krieg zu uns kommt” stelle ich die Frage, die Österreich verdrängt: Was passiert wirklich, wenn der Krieg zu uns kommt?

“The first gun that was fired at Fort Sumter sounded the death-knell of slavery. They who fired it were the greatest practical abolitionists this nation has produced.“

US reportedly committing nearly its entire JASSM-ER inventory to the Iran war. Per @Bloomberg: ~2,300 pre-war stockpile, 1,000+ already fired, & after repositioning remaining missiles to CENTCOM/UK bases, only ~425 left for rest of the world 👇 www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Meine Ostersonntagskolumne.

I'm happy to share what I've been working on for a while: a book on the Russian General Staff.
The most important military institution in Russia has not had any English book on it since 2006. Now it's time.
Sharing is caring, but pre-order is good karma (link below).
“A veteran of Iraq like Mr. Hegseth should know better. The enemy always gets a vote, and even after a victorious campaign, the effect of war on a population may have complex, unwanted and sometimes catastrophic consequences”
I wrote about Iran for @nytimes.com

Fighting a second-rate military power while vicariously and indirectly militarily and economically strengthening two first-order ones, which you may have to confront at a later stage, through your actions, and the sequencing problems it creates, may perhaps not be sound military strategy.
‘Russia has been expanding its intelligence sharing and military cooperation with Iran, providing satellite imagery and improved drone technology to aid Tehran’s targeting of U.S. forces in the region, people familiar with the matter said.’

‘But Russian soldiers have advanced in other areas, including at the southern edge of the Zaporizhzhia front.’
‘Black Bird, a Finnish war-monitoring group, said Russian troops in February lost more Ukrainian territory than they captured for the first time since November 2023.’

Of course, the Middle East and East Asia are two different theaters, but it will nonetheless be somewhat telling to what degree the impressive performance of US/Israeli forces at the tactical level will or won’t substantially contribute to a strategically advantageous ending of the war for the US.
When I did research for my book ‘How the United States Would Fight China’, this was one of the top concerns of 🇺🇸 senior military leaders and analysts.
E.g., the difficulty of linking technically-tactically impressive strikes at the tactical level with a campaign plan that achieves favorable war termination for the US at the strategic-political level.
As with much else, the Trump administration is not so much a break but a continuation on steroids of some issues concerning the overall US warfighting approach.
“Vienna has really taken on a lot of importance for them . . . it’s their hub in Europe.”
“It’s one of our main concerns about Russian activity here. We know they have been targeting Nato government and military communications with what they’ve got,” said one senior European diplomat based in Vienna. giftarticle.ft.com/giftarticle/...
‘With an East Coast expeditionary unit supporting the war in Venezuela & the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit deploying to the Middle East…there will be no quick response force to aid operations in the Pacific theater… the former senior US defense official said.’ www.nytimes.com/2026/03/14/u...
‘The US-led peace process in Ukraine is fizzling out because Donald Trump is losing interest in the talks and his war against Iran is easing pressure on Russia, officials say.’ giftarticle.ft.com/giftarticle/...
