I was lucky to have the opportunity to talk with some wonderful people about open source and open standards at SC24. The recording is now available.

This is really useful feedback. Thanks for taking the time to post. We'll take at look at the issues in more detail.
The components of oneAPI are already being governed by a foundation. This is called the UXL Foundation. The SYCL compiler is being upstreamed to LLVM Clang currently. When you say messy I am interested to know more about what you mean. I chair the steering committee for the UXL Foundation.
It does remain to be seen but easier than starting from scratch and preferable everyone goes down the same path. Axelera got their processor running a basic SYCL sample in a couple of weeks www.axelera.ai/blog/using-o... but it is true, commercial rollout is vastly different.
Finally got a chance to visit a technical session at #SC24. Interesting challenges for RISC-V adoption but isn't LLVM the obvious choice to build a compiler tool chain? Alongside that maybe SYCL can complement the open standard ISA for general purpose programming for many core processors?
Great to have the first face to face meetup for the UXL Foundation at #SC24 with attendance from many of our members and the broader community.
I enjoyed meeting people I've only spoken to on virtual meetings and look forward to the next one.
