Impressive: the difference between Bluesky PDS and Eurosky PDS users on Sifa is now down to just 25 users....

Will Eurosky beat Bluesky users in their first week after launch...? 😮

It’s kind of funny that this incident is mostly the same as the unwrap incident on Cloudflare a few months ago.

These are small details very easy to miss, even without using LLMs. This is the oldest bug in the book of software engineering at large scale.

Missing that line is something that a human could miss easily. They just didn’t set any limit to a waitgroup.

An LLM would catch that if used properly, the same as a human if they reviewed carefully.

I want to think they have a basic code review in place. They might use LLMs but no need to YOLO.

Amplification due to categorical thinking is especially worrisome in today’s age of big data and customer profiling. Facebook, for example, is known to assign political labels to its users according to their browsing history (“moderate,” “conservative,” or “liberal”) and to provide that information to advertisers. That can lead advertisers to assume that differences among Facebook’s categories of users are bigger than they actually are—which, ironically, can widen the true differences, by giving advertisers an incentive to deliver a highly tailored message to each group. That’s what seems to have happened in 2016, during the U.S. presidential election and the Brexit campaign, when Facebook fed “conservatives” and “liberals” thousands of divisive communications.

My teenage daughter buys CDs and tacks the booklets on her wall. My son collects SNES cartridges. Neither of them is resisting surveillance capitalism. Neither of them is doing frictionmaxxing. But smart people keep insisting that’s what the kids driving the retro-tech revival must be doing. 🧵

Why Climate Goals Aren’t a Lost Cause—Even If We Overshoot Them Earth will likely warm by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius, but we can’t give up on trying to get temperatures back down

Overshooting 1.5°C looks likely—but it’s not game over. The key is limiting how far (and how long) we exceed it, then bringing temperatures back down with rapid cuts + carbon removal. Every fraction of a degree still matters.

Clarifying: I feel like we just invented email addresses. And they’re tricky, I get it. But I’m pushing back on “wtf is the @ symbol even, nobody knows what ‘inbox’ or ‘smtp’ is, stop making it hard for normies”

Instead of making atproto invisible, what if we made it worth the learning curve?

Mamdani's Tax the Rich Agenda Isn't Spooking Wall Street Record jobs and fat real estate leases make finance the No. 1 industry again.

Efforts to defeat Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s push for higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations have led to stories predicting companies would flee New York.

But the numbers tell a different story.

One of the things I love most about Zohran’s rise to power is that it shows so clearly how we could have a better democracy—one that actually serves us instead of just the rich—if the left decides collectively to take electoralism and government seriously. It’s ours for the taking if we want it.

ZOHRAN: “TBH, I don’t think too much about how Republicans portray me. The power of an ideology is judged in the worth of its delivery— to be told a city-run grocery store is implausible but $500 MILLION/day to kill ppl in Iran & Lebanon is necessary speaks to a broken politics.”

This clearly predates any LLM and actually reinforces what I say: no matter the tools involved, humans - specially those behind the wheel of some corporations- are the ones to blame.

1 day ago 0 0 1 0

Like others, I don't think "AI" is a good name for LLMs.

It's not true intelligence, merely a feigned appearance. An insincere and deceitful device to trick the audience into believing a fiction.

It is but an artifice of intelligence. In fact, we should be calling it "artifice-al intelligence".

Leaning into what I heard @atmosphereconf.org: You can do multiple releases.

Originally part of my @recurse.com project (W1'24 woot!) to learn @svelte.dev, build my first product from scratch, and share my scrapbook. The passport concept resonated the most.

It's pre-alpha: be gentle, check it out!
