No amount of AI literacy can protect us because the problem isn’t knowledge, or how to use the system, it’s that the system exists in a culture that has been radically structured around white supremacy and patriarchy and your precious autocomplete incorporates it into its operations.

I honestly think AI being popular with the worst people on earth (in addition to Boomers and Gen Xers) is gonna be what turns the tide. If your parents like something it isn't cool. And having CEOs whine about not enough people adopting AI makes it even less cool. Subcultural capital matters

Philosophers please help. Please can you point me to readings or people who are doing cutting edge work on applied omniscience especially vis-a-vis AI?

@devezer.bsky.social any pointers or places I can start to look?

OUP tells me I should share this. And publicise my book. So here it goes. Please read my book. It has a pretty cover. It's cheap (for an academic book) and you can have this discount! Also please review it, somewhere fancy if possible!

Refusal to Review I wrote the below email, when invited to review a paper that was partially processed by ChatGPT. As I imagine the email could be useful inspiration for others, I decided to make it available. Feel …

“Feel free to adapt and reuse. No attribution needed (…) If you make an adaption that you also want to share, I’d love to know about it, too.”

I've created a list for Bluesky users who were part of philosophy Twitter back in the day. Help me populate it! Also happy to add people who wish they had been part of the old community. I've added a few names already. (Ask if you'd like to be removed.) bsky.app/profile/did:...

Pittsburgh's City Council voted unanimously this week to formally codify its refusal to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. This is bigger than a symbolic gesture, here's what it actually does and why it matters. 🧵

AI Models Lie, Cheat, and Steal to Protect Other Models From Being Deleted — WIRED A new study from researchers at UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz suggests models will disobey human commands to protect their own kind.

This is pretty cool. I haven’t been on Bluesky all day, so I don’t know yet what everyone’s saying about this, but it seems easy to explain away this behavior so that it’s not “AI is choosing AI over humans.” apple.news/AXxrJRY3OTwG...

Prophecy by Carissa Véliz: 9780385550970 | PenguinRandomHouse.com: Books From an award-winning University of Oxford professor comes a brilliant, urgent new look at prophecies—the predictions that determine our lives, from our personal finances and the quality of our health...

Pre-orders have a disproportionate impact because they become self-fulfilling prophecies, much as the effect that algorithms create, as I argue in the book. 6/6
