The Irish truly have a way with words. "Slán" is an easy word that you can add to your Irish vernacular; practice it when leaving a pub, a shop, you name it! And "Slán Abhaile" you will see on a sign every time you leave a town. It is Ireland's way of telling you to get home safely. :-).

Recognise this castle? It has been used as the filming location for several movies, most notably Braveheart! Yes, this fabulous castle is actually an Irish castle though it has doubled as many Scottish and English castles. Check out this incredible castle when in County Meath!

You may come across the word “bia” on a pub window or other various places on your next trip to Ireland. It is the Irish word for food! Remember some pubs only serve drinks, so this is an important word to be aware of. If you are hungry, make sure to keep on the lookout for this word!

Pal is joining us today to help teach you a new word in Irish. "Le do thoil" is the Irish word for please. Give it a lash the next time you are in a pub ordering a pint - end your request with "let do thoil"! Sláinte!

Have you been to Ireland's oldest pub? In 2004 the Guinness Book of World Records issued a certificate to the bar that it was indeed the oldest pub in Ireland! With incredible pints, music 7 nights a week, and the best craic around, it is easy to see why people have been coming here for centuries!
