There isn't a lot of space in the midground to work with for onscreen player movement like this, so I figured I could make my own "stage" for the player characters to move in.
I ended up trying this in 2.5d, which ended up like this:
Ended up playing with some other variations.
The foreground asset gets in the way, so I tried fading them out in ranges where they're in the way (or can't render correctly)

Yeah, we'd never put AI art or music in the game or anything we sold to people. That's just messed up. But I mean NVIDIA is putting AI art in everyone's games with DLSS5, which was the joke here, so... yeah. Some timeline we got here. :(

I built some new tech to run scripts when LEAVING a trigger, and it was a great fit. Anyway, you should definitely talk to the eagle here. (player talks to the eagle and instantly fails the minigame, setting a map variable) PAR: hahaha, gottem.

Yeah, I wanted to tone down the tube distortion for myself but figured other people might like it so I made the subeffects all adjustable as well.
I think the screenshot we took for the update was done at 10 or 30% so the non-scanline effects are pretty minimal.

I am pretty forgiving about translations, but why in the heck did @gungho-america.bsky.social decide to upend the previous TWELVE Trails releases' most important, established, and iconic item name, changing "Acerbic Tomato" to "Bitter Tomato" ???
