It's simple — @propublica.org workers should not be replaced by artificial intelligence. Our contract proposal specifically says that generative artificial intelligence ("GAI") should not be used to replace employees. Management struck out this entire section in their response to our proposal.

NEW YORK – Editorial workers at CNET and ZDNet are joining The NewsGuild of New York as members of the Ziff Davis Creators Guild (ZDCG).

Late last year, Ziff Davis acquired both websites, which cover technology, reviews and beyond. CNET and ZDNet workers will be covered under ZDCG’s current contract, ratified last summer. Under the site’s former owner, Red Ventures, CNET content creators previously unionized as the CNET Media Workers Union affiliated with the Writers Guild of America East.

“We’re thrilled that CNET and ZDNET folks will be joining us,” said Anna Iovine, unit chair of the Ziff Davis Creators Guild, which includes journalists at Lifehacker, Mashable, and PCMag. “They’ll be protected under just cause with no exceptions, along with the many other protections in our contract, and will receive guaranteed raises very soon.”

“We're honored to be joining our friends in the ZDCG, who have demonstrated their commitment to fighting for and protecting workers' rights,” said Faith Chihil of CNET. “We're energized, excited and ready to continue building toward a legacy of fairness and equal opportunities for our union, using our combined powers.”

ZDNET’s members said in a joint statement: "We are excited to join the other amazing brands in the ZDCG. We look forward to working with our colleagues to uphold our shared values and an equitable future together."
