TL;DR: Fitbits are kinda junk. You'd probably be better off getting a full blown smart watch because they have all the health monitor stuff built in anyways.

Apparently there was some kind of defect identified that Fitbit couldn't fix, so they just sent replacements. Neither of them ever had any issues until they both just suddenly died about 2 years later within a week of each other.

Ms Shanks had a Fitbit years ago that she got along with a new phone on a plan. About 6 months later a package arrived out of the blue with a brand new one and an instruction card telling us to dispose of the old one. It worked fine so she kept the new one and gave the old one to her dad.

If you're on desktop, you can get extensions for most browsers to either force shorts to play in the regular player, or remove them from view entirely. I use "Youtube-shorts block" in Firefox for this.
