Speaker Currie:
"Before we go to the roll call, the Chair has two announcements. First, Democratic management is offering submarine sandwiches, the Democratic Representatives expected to arrive shortly after 7:00 in the Speaker's conference room. The second announcement from the Chair is that you have ten minutes, eight minutes in which to turn in your change of vote sheets on Agreed Bill List 2."

85th GENERAL ASSEMBLY
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TRANSCRIPTION DEBATE
94th Legislative Day
April 21, 1988
Speaker Breslin: "The lady from Cook, Representative Currie."
Currie: "Thank you, Madam Speaker and Members of the House. We
don't have a State Department but we do have a House State Government Administration Committee which took more than eight hours of testimony on House Bill 1374 and the MacBride Principles. The charges made that this is intervention in foreign affairs rather than appropriate purview for the State of Illinois. I would remind the Members that the issue in House Bill 1374 are investments of Illinois Pension Funds, not the foreign relations of the Northern Irish Government. I think on the contrary, that the point of this Bill is to say to say to the British Government and to say Northern...to Northern Ireland that fair play, anti-discrimination, human rights, matter to the people of this country and to the people of the State of Illinois.

I do have on hand this Sun-Times editorial backing her bill to raise the default age of juvenile jurisdiction to include 17-year-olds. Which she passed.

I estimate this law alone has so far kept at least 30,000 Illinois youth out of adult court, preventing public, permanent adult felony convictions

This is what is in SB3164. There's nothing sinister "hiding in it." There are plenty of problems with transparency and process in the General Assembly. This is not an example of it.

Good rageclick content doesn't really do much for more effective advocacy.

The biggest miscommunication is whoever runs this account not knowing how to read bills.

This is not the e-bike bill, it's a different piece of legislation and these provisions were noted, objected to, and removed in an amendment a month and a half ago.

SENATOR PARTEE:

Clerk Selcke: "Another thing, will the individual that is voting : for an individual that is not here, please refrain from this, because you're going to get them in trouble with the Comptroller and everybody else and I'm sure you're all full of Internal Revenue business, so please don't pull a guy's switch when a guy's not here, cause if the Roll Call shows he's here, he's going to get a check and that's going to screw up the whole works, so please, please don't pull anybody's switch that's not here and I'm particularly referring to Toby Barry's switch now. All right, now let's do it all over again and only pull your own switch."
