I wonder if there's some universe where a Broken Calculator puzzle posed by a math teacher inspired the EML function.

Seems like a good example of...this is the most common metric because this is the metric easiest to measure.
😂😂😂 (I might have intentionally left it out just to have a fun eye roll when a kid points it out)
How are you turning that calculator on? No mention of it being solar?
assuming, of course, your "f" button outputs f( , ) and you have a smart cursor that automatically moves you to the next available input 🤪
I had *not* seen this, but found it now! Thanks! One tiny nitpick with #2, doesn't your calculator also need a button for ENTER? 😁
(I also haven't figured out the answer, which might be helpful)
I have no idea how things are working on the backend in Desmos, but do you run into similar issues with larger inputs if you define intermediate functions. Is this simply an issue of getting very large or very small intermediate values?
Love it. It took me about 3 seconds from hearing about the EML function to start thinking about how this could be used in a precalc class.
the first newsletter i've... ever subscribed to???
on purpose, at least! #iTeachMath #MathSky

How much does this bag of chips cost?
Hard to say. Could be free. Could be $1000.
Except we are talking about life-saving care, not chips.
A grocery store with this business model would never make it, yet this pretty much describes the norm in healthcare. My story happens to currently be about Kaiser, but in my experience this is typical for any healthcare in the US. It's bananas that this is legal, never mind acceptable.
Surprisingly, this bill is for twice as much as you were quoted when you were in the store. There are no details, and you have to go back to to the store to see how much each individual item costs. Even then, though, you are just given the SKU for each item, not an understandable description.
Imagine a grocery store with no prices on anything. You can stand in a separate line to get an estimate of how much your food for the week will cost, and you are told that it will greatly depend on your membership level. Instead of paying on your way out, you get a bill in the mail a month later.
California or California-curious math teachers: Don't forget to submit conference proposals for CMC-South! ♾️
And I assume you were only talking about explicit, financial payments, not all of the other ways that schools will inevitably pay for AI products.

Sadly, this didn't seem to hurt Hertz's bottom line. It probably helps them that every single car rental agency is a complete mess.

The below image is fake.
This is frustrating bc we have to be skeptical of everything, to think hard about moon phases & corresponding "Earth phases", to look closely & recognize half of Africa is missing.
So when we do see an amazing image of space (there are lots!), we can't just enjoy it.
Do you know if there's an equivalent scorecard for how favorable Net Energy Metering policies are in different places? CA may get a B for bureaucratic obstacles, but we have regressed significantly in terms of compensating power put back into th grid from rooftop solar.
If anyone hears of a position to try and crack the problem of how best to teach people to avoid falling into this type of trap (never mind the plethora of other ethical and moral considerations), ***that*** is an AI related job I'd be interested in.
I'm job hunting for positions outside the classroom, casting a wide net, & I'd estimate at least half the jobs that come across my LinkedIn feed have AI components in the job description and/or organization.
An AI generated tl;dr summary omits the father/son tension central to the piece &, ironically, just below a section on hallucinations, spits out "[Some doctors] are beginning to 'prescribe' AI tools or prompts to help patients stay informed." No semblance of this statement appears in the article.
This story is terrifying & heartbreaking.
tl;dr A man w/ cancer ignores his doctors' pleas for treatment bc of his own "research" using AI. His son, an expert who writes a newsletter on the proper use of AI, is unable to convince him to trust his doctors, ultimately costing the father his life.
Saw the play The Monsters at Berkeley Rep last night, which has been aptly described as "hits hard and hugs harder." Ngozi Anyanwu (also the playwright) & Sullivan Jones were incredible in physically and mentally demanding roles, and I left wanting to just go home and cuddle with my 7-year old boy.
Ugh. So many candidates for CA governor, and yet I appear to be running out of people I'd consider voting for.
Anyone in the LA area is probably better off renting out their place and going to Italy to check out all of the winter Olympic locations.
