Trump gave a press conference toggling seamlessly between "disabled people caused the plane crash" and "Black people caused the plane crash" and it's disconcerting how so many folks' take away is to try and parse out which comment is worse. It's eugenics and that's uniformly bad, guys!
So far the war on so-called "DEI" - has come for
- women at the CIA who want to get together and celebrate women spies
- people at the Defense Intelligence Agency who want to observe...Holocaust Remembrance Day.
- apparently, any federal celebration of...Black History Month.
When we use "the future of work" to solely drive decisions in education, we prepare students solely for a future as "workers" rather than a future as citizens, community members, & unique individuals. We prepare them to be exploited by those with money & power rather than to shape their own future.

Deaf readers are the ultimate plot twist for the Science of Reading. SoR insists sound-based approaches (oral language, phonics, phonological awareness) are required. Yet here we are, a whole community of deaf folks reading without hearing or speaking a word. What does that tell you?

A program I piloted and got state funding ($550,000 annually) for here in NJ is placing ASL Deaf Language Associates in daycare classrooms with Deaf, hoh, and Deaf-blind babies. Free of charge to families!
Acts of civil disobedience, active resistance, speaking truth to power, and courage from educators will be needed even more in the coming years. Kudos to these superintendents refusing to show blatant propaganda to students.
