Frankly I should have seen it coming, but I didn't clock that when I decided to teach a course on the history and contemporary implications of housing discrimination that I would end up having to explain why a self-amortizing mortgage is such a big deal

Another thing I want to note about this -

It was surprising how little some of the metro board members seem to know about the process, about the technical details, about the funding mechanisms, etc.

One of the problems with having a board made up of people who have several other jobs.

4. Chair Dutra looked quite surprised, several times, about just how substantial the affiliations of the people who came to speak were.

3. One of the Lafayette Square homeowners said she was worried about electromagnetic radiation from the trains. I thought we couldn't get more unscientific but I was so wrong lmfao.

2. One of the Lafayette square homeowners got up and said "look I go to this ralphs all the time but I can walk to sprouts and target just as easily" to another round of derision from her neighbors.

Some highlights from public comment:

1. After I pointed out that the Ralph's is, in fact, not the only grocery store in the neighborhood, one of the Lafayette square homeowners who'd called me on my personal phone to complain to me yelled "you're full of shit" which I thought was very funny.

The metro board meeting was very annoying and it was very obvious that the board members came to an agreement before public comment even got started.

Ultimately I think this is still mostly a win, but Jesus Christ man we're compromising between sense and nonsense here.
