... aren't the Ozarks in Missouri??

7 hours ago 0 0 1 0

He sure would!

Unfortunately he wasn't born in the US, which is in the Constitution as a requirement.

Check out Aftab Pureval, mayor of Cincinnati, who *was* born in the US and is another mayor making waves (albeit in a much more conservative area.)

I need to stay awake for another hour.

That doesn't sound THAT hard, but I am tired. I did a very emotional thing today and am worn out.

I'd like to do useful things for the next 15-30 min but it's unlikely to happen. I'll just wash my face and brush my teeth!

My feelings are not hurt. Well, not much.

he's a one-woman cat, and I'm not that woman.

One of the cats I'm caring for has decided I'm probably worth trusting.

He's rubbed against my legs while making plaintive meows, allowed me to pet him, and licked my wrist 3 times while I did so.

The other one sniffs my offered hand, but then turns and hurries away.

Where on Earth did that happen? And when?

I just love that he talked about the kids as "New York's Cutest"!

me noting The Kitchn's recipe for "marry me chicken" serves four, half of me thinking, okay, that makes sense, four is a very typical number for recipes, and the rest of me going, forgive me, The Kitchn, I was unfamiliar with your poly marriage game

I thought McClatchy used to be the *trustworthy* news source!! The one that was standing firm against disinformation!

Now, this rubbish.

Is there a link for this? Is it available outside the British Isles?

I have a lot of old loose tea, I'm realizing, and should probably do a purge.

Ah ... I love English Breakfast teas!

I am rather fond of Tazo's "Awake", which comes in bags. They smell very nice. I think this is the best bagged English Breakfast I know.

Elon Musk spent billions of dollars to push white supremacy and has a compound where he’s keeping the children he’s trying to breed into little supermen and he’s never described as a fanatic for white supremacy.

Rip you off by ... making you happy, get your loyalty, and then raise prices. That's not very respectful!

15 hours ago 1 0 0 0

It's possible that Kroger "knows me" and is giving me that push-you-to-the-limit pricing. I have had a lot of loyalty in the past, but I'm not above going to Aldi or Meijer if I have to. Meijer at least delivers, like Kroger.

Wonder if I should propose that the land where we tore up the dilapidated tennis courts should become a community garden?

I wouldn't use it -- I don't enjoy gardening -- but I can imagine some other folks might.

What's a person to eat if the bare bones foods are so expensive??

Grass cuttings? (I wouldn't eat the local dandelion greens because the lawns where I live are so green I feel sure it's unnatural.)

(I live in a condo: I don't do my own lawn.)

I see a lot of soybeans in my future. (I stocked up in, um, 2021.)

Bok Choy are $2.99/lb, same as a napa, but they weigh much less, so they only cost about $2.50 each.

A Napa cabbage, which is to say a green-and-white vegetable, over a price ("about $8.97 each" for a cabbage, $2.99/lb), and the text "Napa Cabbage" and "SNAP EBT".

A Napa cabbage -- not even an organic one! -- costs $8.97 at Kroger right now.

A green cabbage is $.99 a pound, or approximately $2.50 each. (Non-organic.)

I'm not even a huge cabbage fan, but it's Good For You, so I'm buying. But: strewth.

Dealing with distant and annoyed relative, job work, non-job work, eye irritation, and having scheduled myself a fasting blood draw and then absent-mindedly reached for some almonds and chewed them before remembering the "fasting" part!

We all saw, clearly, that she had the best job in the whole company. She hadn't written it, but she was the only dBase programmer left in the state, or something like that.

The company refused to replace it, much to my consulting parent co's chagrin, because "what was there to improve??"

I remember a Thing Doer at an industrial company I worked for!

Only one person, a woman, worked on it, and she picked her own hours. It was based on dBase 3 and if 2 people were in it on the same record they had to do a call tree to find out who and where they were.

Brilliant.

I sometimes wish I were a principal engineer to be poached.

I'd demand 3/4 million a year and say thing like, "In a word: no. In three words: No, you're crazy." when asked to do impossible things. Then I'd retire.
