You ever try to code switch at work and fail? 😂
That pic on the left is the best thing I’ve seen in days and I am absolutely gonna spite-live long enough to see this brilliant woman in the White House (or at least the US senate but I think I’ve got enough years left for the White House!)
*Googles cattle panels*
Ohhhhh ok
And this is how lil urban me learned what cattle panels are
I feel like Sun Tzu really missed out on "Invent Pete Hegseth and give him to the enemy"

Seem to have entered my Ancient Crone Whose Every Joint Aches Badly When There’s a Sharp Change in the Weather era.
Do not approve.
(It was in the 80s and sunny two days ago; today, when g’daughter had a soccer match, 50s and pouring rain.)

Me, a 70s-era feminist: WTF you mean, “biology is destiny”???
This is heartbreaking.
And infuriating.
And so, so wrong.

Trans right are human rights and anyone who “yes, buts” can fuck all the way off into the sun.
Cover of novel The Inheritance by Trisha Sakhlecha. Picture shows a shadowy image of a woman sitting on a couch, a huge window behind her with heavy drapes, framing a rocky coastline.
Devoured this in two days. Great plotting with two alternating POVs; a wealthy family on a remote island, secrets & lies revealed one after another; building to a stunning climax that I did NOT see coming. The final three words - wow.
Highly recommended.

More that a bit horrified that I understood this…
So today I learned, etc. And this one’s a jaw-dropper. Whole thread. Just “wait, wut? Wow!” all the way down.
It’s a great moment to remember that in the leadup to this popular uprising, the first major gut-punch was delivered by Budapest Pride. Poetic justice. 🇭🇺🏳️🌈
Fantastic thread. Read it all and feel hopeful.
I know things feel helpless in the United States. But they are not. Orbán was in power for sixteen consecutive years. He was the spoke at the center of the global far-right. He built the network, wrote the playbook, modeled competitive authoritarianism. His long reign seemed a sure thing.
Imagine an electoral campaign like this in Russia today. You can’t. Too many have died under mysterious circumstances or rotted in prison. No one is left to push back against Putin without extraordinary risk.
Hungary is a reminder it's critical to contest power forcefully while you still can.
This reality check by Rebecca Solnit grabs you right from the killer first sentence. Do yourself a favor & give it a read.
Haven’t read these but took the test and ooh! I’m Maya the smarty pants! Ok, mercenary librarians is going on the tbr list 😉
“Everything is cracked, everything is stained except the fragile moments that hang crystalline in time and make life worth living.”

When you’re lost in a great novel & a single sentence leaps out & grabs your soul.

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION WILL DIE TONIGHT My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools. Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's "keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's "we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight." It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before. "It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time. A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead. @michaelfdubois Mukad A QuBoy @michacifdubois
Brutal.

With hindsight, both boys’ personalities totally flagged by how they reacted to me shrieking at a boob-chomp.
Older = shock & very careful never to do that again.
Younger = sudden calculating look & weeks of stealth-chomps to see how loud mum could shriek & would there be other consequences?
