Cashman asked about a 2025 budget amendment to move money from mounted patrol to a 5th precinct investigator going unspent by the Office of Public Safety.
Budget Chair Chughtai noted this is exactly the case for this but wouldn't be retrospective

A 2026 budget amendment requires reporting on council dedicated funds being spent. A report by April 30th on how the funds are to be spent and Aug 31st an update. If the funds cannot be spent, a notice within 60 days with an explanation. lims.minneapolismn.gov/Download/Fil...
Unfortunately MAC hasn’t appointed a new representative to TAB yet. We get staff updates
Notable the former presidents hinged all of this on council only voting to confirm that the nominee is *qualified*. No consideration of how they've done in the office or their past work at all? Nope, just whether they have credentials.
I was handcuffed/charged with jaywalking (didn’t) holding a large camera taking a photo of street outside this McDonald’s.
While detained, MPD ignored multiple burglary calls. I had to take it all the way to trial where they tried to shake me down for a plea before dismissing 1 min before trial.
That's exactly it. This stabilization fund would have to be huge to offset the missed revenue from lowering the proposed sales tax from 1% to 0.25%. I remain very skeptical a state-funded stabilization fund has any chance in the House too
Sen. Rest's issue seems to be the regressive sales tax ('the poor pay for health costs') levied on Hennepin county residents instead of using state funds from progressive taxes
Sen. Wiklund introduced a hospital stabilization bill that would use state funds assets.senate.mn/committees/2...
Appreciate the extra detail there. Carving out local streets as 'mayor's purview' certainly stands out then.
Does this push apply to only city-owned streets or is the administration trying to go further with removing council approval for county and state-owned roadways too?
I'm not sure how that overlaps with municipal consent, which is laid out in statute, but it generally says 'city approval'
The only way an increase to 0.25% (from 0.15%) would make any sense is if the sales tax was expanded to the whole metro region. Otherwise it won't bring in any significant increase in funds for HCMC.
I am very confused at the intent here
Jodi Wentland is the county administrator
Always very well-prepared every meeting I've seen her in
Appreciate the insights. A rejected nomination is obviously incredibly rare
Thanks for that. I assumed the 6-7 confirmation vote was the end there, so does the override even matter?
Or is that affirmative rejection required to end things?
There was the confirmation vote that failed 6-7 but then Chavez also brought forward a motion to reject Barnette as Commissioner, which passed 7-6. Is it possible the mayor was vetoing that second action?
Very muddled and appreciate any insights!
I was there for this one and it was Elliot Park (or additionally Elliot Park).

Still a bit of a mystery then! Thanks for sharing what you know
Do you know which project this is part of or how any other details if it's a one-off? I've been very curious about the two-way appearing on the Lyndale design but only knowing about the project east of Lyndale with the Whittier SRTS project
Appreciate any insights!
The new Elliot Park design includes a specific spot for food trucks. I'm still unclear if this will be available for general use or it's intended for events, but it's a step in the right direction.
Also a skate park nearby, which is busy in any warm-ish weather
Curb ramp replacement, traffic signal upgrades, and filling sidewalk gaps are the three categories.
The estimated cost to bring all three to ADA standards was $401 million. Some are standalone projects and many are part of larger reconstruction projects which triggers mandatory ADA upgrades
The ADA transition plan details how well the city is addressing non-compliant intersections. The 2024 report shows it would take *13-17 years* at current funding levels to bring everything up to ADA compliance. How much will this push that timeline back? lims.minneapolismn.gov/Download/RCA...
A frequent reason I hear is the redo of Hennepin Avenue between Lake and 31st is bad for business. Yes, no one likes the layout, but it's also not the reason the *entire area* is struggling
Openings on many Mpls boards and commissions open this month.
Some current members may be reapplying for their seats but that’s not a guarantee of reappointment!
Each board has their times and past agendas listed so you can check the schedule before applying
I've been curious how many ICE vehicles have received a citation through the new traffic safety camera pilot
Will these events be held in parts of the city most harmed by the ICE occupation? They better not be more downtown boosterism
I didn't know about these updates until earlier this week. So useful to get a summary of what's happening from local electeds on a regular cadence
Looking forward to the completed Elliot Park project this spring!
Thank you for the update and handling a chaotic meeting
There's also a disconnect when the long-time caucusgoers seem to take over (usually with a weak chair) and the key steps aren't explained.
One shouldn't have to be a caucus rules expert to participate
one thing being lost in discourse is that rapid response networks are just a tool. they aren’t the end all, be all here. the actual goal is to connect with neighbors! and now with the leaks, they’re not being handed out like they were
go talk to your neighbors to find a chat! or you can make one!
