ChatGPT’s new Atlas browser doesn’t just see what you read — it remembers it.
@eff.org’s Lena Cohen showed me it even logged “memories” of her looking for *abortion care* and her doctor’s name. Out-surveils even Chrome.

I use two key points to frame burnout in libraries. 1st, the definition from the WHO (ICD-11) classifies burnout as an occupational occurrence. 2nd from Maslach, a leading burnout researcher, who identifies 6 key areas contributing to burnout at work. https://buff.ly/3DKSQw0 #burnout #skybrarians
This Wash Post article (gift link) notes the costs in water (clean, drinkable water) & electricity that using a chatbot once a week for a year - by 1 person and also by 10% of US workforce == TOOOOOO high!! bit.ly/4gqFVyd
Honestly I would like to find whoever it was who first posited into the public consciousness the idea that there is some sort of conflict between libraries lending books and authors getting paid, because I would really like to kick their ass in about it.
Screenshot of the Skybrarians feed. The key part is the 'always there' list of feeds down the right hand side, which includes 'Skybrarians' which I've highlighted, alongside other options like 'following', 'discover' and 'popular with friends'
A massive welcome to the influx of library people to Bluesky 🎉 - here's a brief thread of useful things to know.
1) Using the 📚 emoji automatically gets your post into the skybrarians feed, which means more relevant people will see it.
You can 'pin to home' that feed (looks like this on desktop)
I’ve added several library and information conference hashtags to this since last night, and have more to do. Please keep the ideas coming! #LISconference
Last night I had the honour of speaking at the Disrupting Disruptions: Feminist and Accessible Publishing, Communications, and Technologies Speaker Series. My talk was "Every Technology Was Somebody's Choice: Resisting Inevitability Discourse and Recognizing Power in the Generative AI Revolution."
Happy Monday 😂

The most humane coverage I’ve read of the British Library ransomware attack: ‘It is important to remember that experiencing a cyber attack is traumatic for everyone involved, & that the British Library’s staff are working extremely hard to mitigate the impact to users & restore their services.’
I'm just catching up on this 2022 article by Sarah Elaine Eaton and I'm going to memorize these quotes for all my future advocacy conversations:
- "If the system is invisible to you, that is because it was created for you."
- “Institutions show what they value by what they fund.”

Adding this to the main feed in case it's useful. I've been trying to curate a critical reading list about generative AI for post-secondary educators that does not necessarily require disciplinary expertise to engage with. If it's useful to you, please let me know.
Two baby pet rabbits. One is brown (like a squirrel) and flopped on her side. The other is white with brown spots (like a cow) and is sitting upright looking at the camera.
Would you accept rabbits instead? In many ways they’re just weird-looking cats 😂
The British Library has been crushed by a brutal cyberattack. I went to find out more: www.publicbooks.org/how-to-lose-...
Love the SIFT method. Here's a nice piece that weaves SIFT strategies and the ACRL Framework: crln.acrl.org/index.php/cr...
