When the Italian side of my family moved to America they settled in the part of the Bronx that AOC now represents and I would just like to say, based on the photo on the left, thank you congresswoman for respecting my ancestors.

My one big theory about why things fell apart when they did is just this Pew chart.

Not to minimize this because it's fucking disgusting, but plenty of publishers already do this without involving the sloppy shitfest that is AI. The amount of lists I contributed to for Eater that still have my byline on them despite now containing zero words written by me is absurd.

The year is 1969. Man lands on the moon. Back on Earth, the Concorde flies its first test for a commercial supersonic airline.

The year is 2026. Man circles the moon and will, a few years later, land. Back on Earth, there is a concept of a plan for commercial supersonic flights.

The painting is of George Washington crossing the Delaware. It is by Emanuel Leutze.

An article from the National Parks Service: Smallpox,
Inoculation, and the Revolutionary War
Boston National Historical Park
During the 1700s, smallpox raged through the American colonies and the Continental Army. Smallpox impacted the Continental Army severely during the Revolutionary War, so much so that George Washington mandated inoculation for all Continental soldiers in 1777. Just fifty-six years earlier, in 1721, Bostonian doctors and clergy introduced the procedure to the American colonies.
Without the vision and determination of these early Bostonians in normalizing inoculation, Washington may not have made the decision to mandate inoculation for the Continental Army. Though it was a controversial action, many historians credit the medical mandate with the colonists' victory in the Revolutionary War and the creation of the United States of America.

Here's your POPE LEO Royals jersey. Glastonbury, CT? Here's your vintage POPE LEO Hartford Whalers jersey)

This Data Center is Getting a $77 Million Tax Break to Create One Job No other project in the country has gotten such a large subsidy to create so few jobs, according to watchdogs.

America’s largest bank is expanding its data center in Orangeburg, NY, near the New Jersey border.

In exchange for $77 million in tax breaks from the state and county, the bank promises to create exactly one permanent job.

Can Sponge Cities Save Us from the Coming Floods? As the planet gets warmer and the rains fall harder, the future of flood control is looking less like a wall and something more like a park.

As the planet gets hotter, cities around the world are experiencing rain storms with record-smashing intensity.

I spent the last few months visiting places -Copenhagen, Hoboken, & NYC- that have adopted a counterintuitive idea: the safest city is one that can take water in. In @newyorker.com

Just, like, buy electric school buses man. Loan Harbinger the capital to tool up and give them an advance purchase commitment. Sell to schools at a price that undercuts diesel.

The whole federal electric school bus program is only $5B.

On a related note yesterday we were doing an Earth Day Cleanup in town and I gave my 14-year-old kid a black baseball cap to shield them from the sun and they refused to wear it because they, and I quote, "didn't want to look like Wayne from Wayne's World."
