Hard disagree: Morrowind's fast travel system was great. It was a skill, it was _more gameplay_ rather than just clicking a button, and that gameplay also reinforced the worldbuilding. There was a "middle of nowhere" on Vvardenfell!
Granted, though, collecting propylon indices was turbo awful.
you say i am "middle class" but i cannot afford even one (1) anti-tank guided missile launcher for my bicycle
"men only want to talk about ancient rome but women only want to talk about the industrial revolution" awww yeah NOW we're gendermaxxing baby
DISCO ELYSIUM is PLANESCAPE: TORMENT for people who have not read a book in the last calendar year but have watched a series of 2 hour video essays on YouTube
I'm in this picture and I don't like it
The one with the skull-faced Nietzsche-misquoting guy?
“Another way to look at this is that billionaires have joined a war on professional administrative class of public servants precisely because of their proximity to formal mechanisms of accountability.”
That part! Everything from documentation to compliance mechanisms to whistleblowing is a threat.
“Move fast and break things” as an ethos was always going to run into “laws are a hinderance to xyz” and while people may cheekily call it ‘cyberpunk’ or such the reality is it’s nothing more than white collar criminality and should be prosecuted as such
with the water issues IT’S THE FARMER’S FAULT BLAME THE FUCKING FARMERS is like Newtonian physics: it won’t get every single particular right, but for practical purposes it’s all the information you need most of the time
‘Simply stop giving millionaires water for literally free’ is one of the most insane sounding but actually serious policy solutions out there
The “Rawlsian” position of favouring the least advantaged may sound quite radical. However, it is not far removed from the statements of politicians who argue for income tax cuts on the basis that these would stimulate economic activity and hence increase revenue that could be used to raise the incomes of the poorest among us. As this argument illustrates, there is nothing intrinsically egalitarian about the Rawlsian objective. Maximising the well-being of the least advantaged may lead to a quite unequal distribution. More radical in this sense than Rawls was Plato, who expressed the view that no one should be more than four times richer than the poorest member of the society.8 On this egalitarian view, inequality matters on account of the distance between rich and poor, and there may be a case for action even where there is no gain to the poorest.

the best argument for feminism is to just let an old woman talk at you about her career experiences
To be blunt, I think the fundamental disconnect here is that when leftists and liberals (to include conservative liberals) say 'western civilization,' they are referring to a complex cultural and intellectual tradition with fuzzy boundaries.
When MAGA says it, they are misspelling 'the white race.'
The 2026 Atlantic storm name list: Arthur Bertha Cristobal Dolly Edouard Fay Gonzalo Hanna Isaias Josephine Kyle Leah Marco Nana Omar Paulette Rene Sally Teddy Vicky Wilfred
the 2026 Atlantic hurricane names have been released, and I need to tell you all right now that if I get swept off this mortal coil by a storm named Kyle I am haunting the halls of the World Meteorological Organization until the end of time
Congrats, Silicon Valley, you built an infinite Jerry Springer machine and no one wants to use it anymore because it makes them look like Jerry Springer. Me on the inevitable death of "clipping" and, probably, the entire short-form video industry.

The Hunt For Red October (McTiernan, 1990) as a full movie, the opening race from Redline (Koike, 2009) and the villa-escape-freeway-chase sequence from The Matrix Reloaded (Wachowskis, 2003) for 15–20 minutes of good fun and superb craftwork.
Someone I knew once had a t-shirt with a The Tower design on it and I always felt like that was an enormous "begging for trouble" sort of thing, to wear such a shirt. Cool design, but not to put on your body for amusement.

I respect her taste in tarot decks
I kinda want to find out who the one is that's using the Death card from the Silicon Dawn tarot as an avatar but both learning that and the steps required to get there, would probably both be bad for my mental health. Weird thing to see in such company, though!
Postmodern fascism is managing to run out of hack lawyers, reactionary general officers, and amoral bureaucratic functionaries.
They're stuck with barely literate gutter scum for nearly every position of importance and they're performing about as well as you'd expect.
High modern fascism, in addition to getting a small but useful coterie of first rate intellects (even if most of them fled or proved uncooperative), could call upon a vast reserve of competent bureaucrats and administrators who were willing to do just about anything if ordered to.
The most important difference between postmodern fascism and high modern fascism is that the postmodern fascists have an absolutely crippling talent shortage.
High modern fascists could find Heisenbergs and Schmitts and Mishimas. Postmodern ones have to make do with the likes of Bronze Age Pervert.
