This is the most beautiful Mistle Thrush song I have ever heard!

What made it even more magical was the fact that it was gracing a new collaborative nature project in Nechells.

It’s worth taking 26 seconds just to heal the mind and enjoy the wonder of Brum’s birdsong 😎👌

An early start and long shift to clear, set up and monitor feeding stations @bibbeyswildfarms.bsky.social was rewarded with some quality birding:
Jack Snipe
90+ Stock Dove
Peregrine
3 Stonechat
14 Crossbill SW ➡️ Uffmoor Wood
10+ Lesser Redpoll
Now 45+ Yellowhammer!
12+ Reed Bunting

Ahh Happy New Year Phil! Great to hear from you. 60+ was the all-time record set in the 90’s and we came close in late January 2023 with 55+ but this latest count bodes well for another attempt at the record.
Hope life is treating you well and best wishes to your dad and rest of family too 😎👍👊

Fantastic to see that Yellowhammer numbers have now reached 30 at @bibbeyswildfarms.bsky.social 😍

A little sample of them were captured in this photo.

Hi Andy,
Really sorry, got into a comfort zone of assuming it was settled but the unexpected weather appeared to put pay to its stay 🙏🙏🙏

Hi Phil,
favoured site was in Worcs but on 3 occasions seen circling over Stour and into West Mid’s between Breach Farm & Uffmoor Wood.
Alec sent me the photo asking whether it was a Redpoll and I nearly passed out when I saw the image! 😂😂
Keen to find precedents on farms in our region…

Nature Friendly Farming does it again!

This gorgeous Snow Bunting found refuge @bibbeyswildfarms.bsky.social during horrendous weather on 22nd November 2025

It was allowed to settle, found our winter bird provisions and stayed till New Year’s Day!

Well done to finder Alec Longhurst
👌👏

Great to return to @bibbeyswildfarms.bsky.social today after a leg injury
Finch numbers have predictably fallen after fireworks/storms but Yellowhammer are building and great to record 6 Reed Bunting.
Stonechat are wintering again at a new site but no sign of XC or BZ yet. Also Peregrine noted.

Hi Rob,
Had a few fly through over the years but these were my first “on the deck”. A real unexpected treat. They actually circled me four times as I walked across the field so it felt like a really magical experience 😎

This is the 5th year that I’ve witnessed the return of winter finch & bunting flocks to @bibbeyswildfarms.bsky.social - it gets more and more exciting!

Nature Friendly Farming on this urban fringe has served thousands and thousands of birds in that time!

Time to roll it out around Brum! 🚜

A win for nature-friendly farmers! 🎉 The Govt has confirmed 1-year extensions to Countryside Stewardship Mid-Tier agreements - providing certainty for those delivering for food, nature & climate. 👉 “This was a key ask from NFFN, and it’s a strong signal,” says our CEO @linesmartin.bsky.social. #nffn

This morning’s gratitude was based on a sample of 3 bird species populations that are increasing on Brum’s urban fringe as a result of Countryside Stewardship that is being withdrawn on 31st December without a replacement!
Also Linnet, Skylark, Yellowhammer…

2 Raven circling low over Colmore Row near Snow Hill Station earlier this afternoon.

A tick for this area of Brum and great to hear their gronking calls echoing around the buildings here

An important Cuckoo host species, the Meadow Pipit is often overlooked but has huge character and claw!

Their “parachute” display is a delight to watch!

They are declining; Amber-listed and on the global IUCN “near threatened” list

Great to see 130+ @bibbeyswildfarms.bsky.social today 😎
