I am fine with good faith deconstruction of any work of art. I am less fine with bad faith deconstructions that react badly to any counter.

I don’t think I’m specifically talking about “the woke” - Go woke or go broke! I am more talking about fandom culture write large. The idea of ownership over a story to the point of entitlement to dictate its trajectory. This fandom revolt is largely on the left, true. But we’ve seen it all before.

There is a species of fandom that needs to see their own manifesto delivered on screen or they will somehow feel betrayed - and take it out on anyone else who doesn’t react to that sense of betrayal with submission.

In 2026 it is far more likely that Trump would receive pushback at the National Prayer Breakfast than at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

This is existential for the Conservative Party & for Harper’s Unite the Right project. If the next election is decided before the results come in past Kenora, I can see a Reform 2.0 emerging, that is (at least) agnostic on western separatism. I explained a bit of my thinking on this here:
