Endless litany of examples of this discriminatory, & yeah, racist/colonialist, & elsewhere misogynistic/sexist (see eg @mandigray.bsky.social's book), dbl standards & hypocrisy, whc too few take issue w/ as strongly as true, principled commitment to free expression rather than to power might evoke.

Liberals split online harms bill to postpone debate over policing hate speech | CBC News The Liberal government is splitting its online harms bill into two separate pieces of legislation in an effort to sidestep a divisive debate over the bill and speed up passage of measures to protect children from online predators.

Been planning to share my comments from last week's #CIGF2024 Online Harms Act panel. Now seems a good time, given today's announcement that the govt will split up Bill #C63 to push Part 1 (+4&5) through. I was asked to discuss potential unintended consequences of Part 1 and how to mitigate them. 🧵

its my least favourite season of the semester - sooo much plagiarism reports this year - more than I have ever had in all my years combined as a TA and prof.

I’m reading the damages by Genevieve Scott - I am really enjoying it. It’s a fiction about a historical sexual assault lawsuit.

Hi!! My book Suing for Silence: Sexual Violence and Defamation Law was released this year by @ubcpress.bsky.social - my book received a starred review from the Quill & Quire! It looks at the growing trend of men suing their accusers for defamation.

Congrats to @mandigray.bsky.social on the publication of her new book!

I crushed this book on the train this week. Full disclosure : My story is listed in this book. VERY familiar with defamation law in Canada and yet, still learned a great deal.

Congrats, Mandi! Such important work!
