A simple question

Sharing my morning with this tiny person. She was too cold to move! When the wind blows, she shivers 🥹.
She was on the porch floor and couldn't fly away. She desperately wiggled her little butt so we'd know she was a person. Got her to safety. Now she's eating frosting 🤣 happy Easter buzzing ones!
Here it comes. Trump’s $1.5 trillion dollar grift to end all grifts.
And… scene.
Even if total user count is technically still growing, slowly, about a third of *active* users left over the last 12 months. That's a dying social network, not a growing one. If it doesn't change, bluesky won't survive. I think that would be a bad thing tbh. I mostly like it here.
But let's be honest: there's a large cadre that basically cheers on chasing off any lib/centrist/academic who's the punchbag of the day. There's a culture of saying "fuck off back to X, then". And the anti- bedtime leftists set too much of the culture.
I don't know if it's fixable, especially as I think quite a lot of the people here don't *want* to fix it. But at the rate users are quitting they'll run out of targets soon enough, and the rest of us will lose what is – for a fair few of us I suspect – the last fun/useful social network. Sigh.
Who’s pulling Trump’s strings? Do you really have to ask?

I really like the work of men like @remakingmanhood.bsky.social - sociologically based.
So too @jacksonkatz.bsky.social - both educators who speak about systemic masculine toxicity - but also offer something better for men.
Each has their own websites.
The gender friendship gap turns out to be driven almost entirely by white men's uniquely low levels of friendship closeness. And among white men, higher socioeconomic class predicted even lower closeness. The most privileged group has the least close friendships. link.springer.com/article/10.1...
Fox used nationally representative data (NLSY97) to compare friendship closeness across Black, Latino, and white men and women. Black men and Latino men reported friendship closeness similar to women of all groups. So... the gap is not universal. link.springer.com/article/10.1...
For decades, research has found that men's friendships are less close, intimate, and satisfying than women's. This has been called the "gender friendship gap." But most of that research was based on predominantly white samples. link.springer.com/article/10.1...
New research challenges what we thought we knew about men's friendships. A new study by @ucsantabarbara.bsky.social Sociology grad student, Emily Fox (@emilycfox.bsky.social), asks: is the "gender friendship gap" really about gender? Spoiler: not exactly. 🧵 link.springer.com/article/10.1...

EXCLUSIVE: 7 months ago, Ukraine tried to sell the U.S. their battle-proven technology for downing Iranian-made drones.
The Trump administration dismissed the Ukrainians, only to reverse course last week after more-than-expected Iranian drone strikes.
quite the brain-trust we have in the Pentagon...Still no cards but they are well fed - lobster tails and sushi and bottomless ice cream machines....and too head up your ### to get help from our ally who knows more about a problem than you do.
There is absomuteky nothing Jack Dorsey has to say that's remotely unique or interesting and it's embarrassing when editors and people of prominence pretend otherwise
