CRASHLAND 2.0 also introduces underwater missions for the first time. Those donโ€™t exactly have the best reputation in gamingโ€ฆ but I think Iโ€™ve done something interesting here, and feedback from the closed beta has been fantastic. Watch out for that octopus! ๐Ÿ™

There are some DOOM 2โ€“levels of weapon updates too, including my favourites TURBO FIRE and LEECH FIRE. Special perks like DASH and ADRENALINE also add new movement mechanics which feel amazing.

I'm a solo developer working in my spare time on this, so it's taken a while. I'm delighted with how it's turned out though. I've tried to push the Quest 2/3 to it's limits with the physics and procedural animation. You can see some examples of the latter in the trailer, e.g. snakes and ape men

Always interested in water FX! Ever shifting vertical billboards with light shaft textures has been the main (cheap) way I've been filling out the space

Ah ok yeah don't have the luxury of volumetric FX on Quest, so just a basic spotlight with cookie. Hand based lighting would be interesting especially for tension, it's something you can only figure out from gameplay testing I'd imagine

Lights on the hands are interesting, never thought of that! Scanner looks familiar, looks to be working well

Nice! Seems to work well. I remember having some interesting dreams after spending all day implementing shark attacks. Yeah feel free to tag me, always interested

Looks really good! The creatures have very nice animation to them. Love the Ichthiosaur! Above water FX looks great too

Yeah caustics were done using a projector on the original Oculus Rift version. Couldn't do that on early mobile VR, too many draw calls etc. It's back for Crashland's underwater missions and the mixed reality scenes of Ocean Rift. I use shaders to do it now though, rather than projector.

Yeah sorry for the wait! I'm a Uni lecturer + develop Ocean Rift at the same time, takes a while! Crashland especially because of all the creatures. Yes there is a crocodile mixed reality habitat coming soon!

Once I've done a first pass of the alpha, it will be time to do a trailer. There won't be a long wait between trailer and release!

Creatures are all done, there's about 35 new ones. Those are the main timesink as they are all very different. Perks are also done. It's nearing alpha state, i.e. playable start to finish. Then it's all about polish and balancing. The update *should* go open beta in the spring.

Most new weapons will indeed be included in the commando perk. There are some that likely won't due to mechanical reasons. Underwater missions have unique weapons so commando will work differently for them.

So for example a special mission might unlock "dash", which lets you use a teleport point to dash in any direction. Special perks are selected seperately to the normal perks, and you can have several active by end game.

The 12 special missions are seperate to the main 24. At the moment they unlock based on player level. The first one unlocks about player level 5 for example. They are designed to enhance the main campaign. Completing a special mission unlocks a special perk specific to that mission.
